Laurie Ashbourne

Nice bump of news for the holidays. I will make this film come hell or highwater as they say, so this is a nice validation.

Here's the skinny: I submitted a project that I know I can produce for the $3MM prize. And it's something that a lot of women deal with but has never been focused on in film. It's what I call a realistic PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN meets 3 BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING MISSOURI, the protagonist is a vigilante going after deadbeats who don't pay child support.

Why you say? There is currently over $116 BILLION in unpaid child support in the US and that's just what is reported. It's even worse in other countries.

Crystal L Brooks

Congratulations Laurie! I saw your name and shared it with some other friends in the Writers Room Cafe. Congratulations to all the quarterfinalists!!

David Hall

Wow! What a great start to 2024 - congratulations everyone. Keep my fingers crossed for you!

Joan Butler

Hi Rick, I am new to the entertainment industry, so I am still asking very basic questions. I see that you are a producer who writes excellent scripts. Would you mind telling me why you don't produce your own scripts?

Joan Butler

Hi Laurie, since you are also a producer, I have the same question for you.

Laurie Ashbourne

Hi Joan - I absolutely produce my stuff. In fact I don't produce anything that I don't play an active part in developing the story. And when my script in this endeavor is made, I will be a producer on it.

Joan Butler

Thanks Laurie. That's what I wanted to know. Have a great day.

Joan Butler

Thanks, David. I didn't progress to the semifinals, but I wish everyone who did the best of luck!

Eda Lishman

Holy Cow! My script Holy Salmon! made it to the quarters! Congratulations to my fellow compatriots. Victor Borge had the best line when it came to changing perceptions - he said the shortest distance between two people is laughter. Holy Salmon has struggled and is still surviving- like it's metaphor - the salmon. They spend their lives swimming against the odds. They give up their lives for the sake of their progeny. Holy Salmon keeps on raising it's little head to manifest its survival. Holy Salmon is a magical realism movie about three Indigenous sisters, a rebellious teen and a scrappy Raven that leave their Reserve and head to Hollywood to enter a prestigious cooking competition. Winning could save a sister's life.

Its a comedy. It is a dramedy. But mostly it is about resilient women - women who are born at a time when the tides "they are a changing" and yet still must deal with those that have yet to move. Although our world can no longer operate in "the old ways". We must recognize that sometimes we need to take a step backward to move forward.

Good Luck to all the women on this path with me.

The drinks are on me in any bar in any town you live in - if I win. A Happy New Years' toast to all of you. I am happy to be in your company today. And thank you Stage 32 , David and and RB. This is the second time I have made it to the quarters. I'm getting closer- but I couldn't have done this without you!

Lydia Cornell

Honored and humbled that my script 'Venus Conspiracy' made it to the Semi-finals!
