My name is Rachel, and I'm a screenwriter.
I graduated from Temple University with a degree in film focused on directing, but oddly enough never truly pursued screenwriting solely until a few years ago. I've written several shorts which have garnered some accolades, and I'm putting the finishing touches on my first feature with the help of a screenwriting coach.
I'm excited to get more feedback and continue polishing before submitting to competitions or pitch sessions. He recommended this platform which I've had for a long time but never utilized properly, so my goal is to be more active this year and make more connections as there isn't much of a film community in the middle of Pennsylvania.
Drama is my favorite genre to write in - I love to tell "the other side" of stories - but I've dipped my toe in comedy and horror as well. I love reading scripts, then watching the finished film - most recently did this with May December and American Fiction. My dream is to be able to adapt my favorite memoir, and to develop a feature about an infamous conspiracy theory.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and swap scripts!

Congratulations Rachel Troche on getting that degree and all of your accomplishments. You're in the right place...among friends. And now, I'd LOVE to know what the infamous conspiracy theory is that your dream is to write a story on. Glad you're with us!

Hope you're doing great, Rachel Troche. Congratulations on graduating! If I had a screenwriting coach when I started, I think I would've avoided a lot of mistakes.

Thanks Maurice Vaughan ! I should've mentioned I graduated in 2008 (can't believe how long ago this was now!), but I'm really glad I invested in a coach since going back to school isn't much of an option right now.

You're welcome, Rachel Troche. I think my 10th grade Computer teacher graduated from Temple. Is your first feature script a Drama? And is it a straight Drama or a genre mix?

Maurice Vaughan nice!! I was there when Da'vine Joy Randolph was in theater school - I got to see her in Into the Woods and she was fantastic so it made this year's Oscars extra cool to watch. Yes, my first feature is a straight drama - It's about a military spouse who learns the hard way reintegration is often harder than deployment.

Thanks Asmaa Jamil! The memoir is "Nowhere Girl: A Memoir of a Fugitive Childhood" by Cheryl Diamond. Reads like fiction and is absolutely fascinating on all fronts. The rights have already been acquired by a production company, but as far as I know a screenwriter isn't attached yet.
