Had calls with execs at Netflix and another streamer where in both cases the point was made that the buying machine is slowly, but surely revving up.
The appetite for features is ahead of TV at the moment, but that's expected to level off a bit in Q's 3 & 4.

Richard "RB" Botto Maybe time to have Netflix Exec Chris Mack on another pitching Netflix webinar. Or is one already planned?

Thanks Richard "RB" Botto for always keeping us in the loop. I'm prepping for Q's 3 & 4, getting in my hour a day making connections, perfecting my pitch, script and deck. And being of service to others, even if it's an encouraging gesture. When the call comes, I will be READY! Thanks for all you do! I Love it here!

Actually discussed that on the call and next steps in our partnership with Netflix, but the details in all 5 of those workshops remain the same as it relates to TV. As for features, it's all about the right material and if it can be packaged or bring producing power, even better.

Good to hear, Richard "RB" Botto! If Stage 32 partners with Netflix, does that mean writers on here could potentially get their material packaged and shown to these streamers one day?

You have over 1 million film and television creatives and professionals around the world to network with here - not to mention 13 years of resources to explore. Be active, treat networking like part of your job and I have no doubt you'll reap the rewards. Great to have you in the community!

Richard "RB" Botto thanks for sharing the news about the Netflix acquisition. It gives us all hope and just goes to show that if the material is right, it will find a buyer.

Hi Richard, I have a question, on script services under first 10 page review and choose your genre and executive. Is that free or is there a fee?

WGA strike ended Sept 2023. Did the execs say why business is slow for 6+ months?

This is what I love about Stage 32, Richard "RB" Botto. There's someone watching out for us. This is certainly good news to hear being a feature guy. Side note: in my time here, I've been able to figure out that being a "feature guy" is where I feel most at home.

M LaVoie 5 figures? Not sure where you're getting that. If anything, they overpay to price out those with a theatrical model. One time, high end buyout.

Pretty well documented, Dan MaxXx. Always slows down into the holiday season, doubly so coming out of 2 strikes and an industry wide work stoppage. Also usually slow heading out of the holidays with Sundance and Berlinale back to back. Throw in uncertainty with business models, M&A action and a variety of other factors. Everyone knew it would be a slow ramp up and that those who had a clear understanding of their business model and their balance sheet would be the first back to the table. That has been exactly the case.

Thanks Leonardo Ramirez. Much appreciated. And if you were reading the trades yesterday, you would have seen 1 more feature deal and one more that will likely close this weekend.

There was no work from May to Sept 2023 from strikes. So you're saying employers went about as normal taking extended holidays from nov to Jan 2024 & 2 months for festivals? Wga & sag leaders, west & east coast, didnt expect this freezeout

The industry contraction on the TV side started in 2020, in part with Covid and in part due to market forces. These things are cyclical of course, but we haven’t seen a rebound to pre-2020 levels and things will not go back to that same industry structure. The industry is changing, as it always does. Globalization has been happening across all sectors of the economy for 30 years, and in the industry for at least 10. International expansion isn’t new - I was moving my company’s focus in that direction starting in 2018, and it accounts in no small part for the success of Stage 32 because R. B. saw the same economic trends coming. New technologies like AVOD and FAST are getting ready to replace some of the distribution models of SVOD, whose business model was never going to be infinitely sustainable- there are only so many subscribers in America. Most of the contraction we’ve been seeing has been gradually happening for several years, Covid accelerated it and the strikes obviously didn’t help, but the driving forces are much larger.

What freezeout? Everyone knew contraction was already happening Dan MaxXx. Everyone. Including WGA and SAG leaders. And yes, many did take (extended) vacations, more moved out of the state recognizing that global is where its at. And yes, Sundance and Berlinale were more highly attended this year than last and Cannes is pacing ahead as well.

We need to talk. Today! My projects. Still awaiting responses from you and staff. Thank you for the great lineup of AMAs. Having my posts on my Stage 32 Wall right now would really be helpful as I solve The Stage 32 Mystery while awaiting responses. I just remembered that I filled an extension on my taxes. I’m discussing with my old accountant how to handle what happened on my taxes since it just happened a little over a month ago. I hadn’t adjusted my tax paperwork yet to reflect the investigation.
