Hi!
Jumping right in to introduce myself... My name is Sarah Jones, and I recently joined Stage32. Looking forward to networking/connecting/learning and giving/receiving feedback.
A little bit about myself...
- Designed my own major in film studies and had a dream of moving to New York to be a screenwriter, however needed to pay the bills when I moved from Central Pennsylvania to NYC and became a recruiter - but continued write on the side.
- I recently completed my first pilot + series bible for a concept I've been working on off and on for close to a decade (called LIMINAL)
- LIMINAL has received some recognition in quarterfinalist category for a handful of contests which has been exciting. (*note - I probably would have finished it sooner if it weren't for my pesky day job as a recruiter : but I will admit, being a recruiter in the tech industry does provide A LOT of content + inspiration/ideas :)
if there are any recommendations of classes, groups or connections to make, please feel free to point me in the right direction! Excited to be here!

This is one fantastic IY post, Sarah Jones. Fantastic to have you, your talents, your selflessness and collaborative spirit in the community. You're going to fit in famously around these parts.
As for groups, I would highly recommend the Screenwriting and Filmmaking Lounges (available from the top menu.)
As for classes, we do have the world's largest library for film and television craft and business anywhere in the world. Over 3,000 hours worth. You can find all of it under Education on the top menu bar.
As for meeting people, I don't think you're going to have much of a problem. This is one friendly, talented and active community that continues to grow by the day. Start conversations, join conversations and just have fun.
Finally, this weekend is Introduce Yourself Weekend, which we've been running every third weekend of the month since we launched 13 years ago. Look at it as a networking open house where you get to come in, introduce yourself (yes, you can do it again and again each month) and, more importantly, meet and connect with others to build your relationships and network.
Again, fantastic to have you here.

Welcome to the community/global family/club/party, Sarah Jones. Congratulations on "Liminal" being a quarterfinalist in a handful of contests!
"I moved from Central Pennsylvania to NYC and became a recruiter." That sounds like the opening line of an Action/Thriller/Spy movie. One of those voiceover dialogues.

Hello Sarah Jones, make it happen! Pitch tank is a great resource for when you are ready to sharpen your pitching of your project. Since I started here, I have had my projects quarterfinal and even semifinal in a few competitions. I thought I was ready to pitch, and I spent a little time pitching and a lot of time getting feedback from execs. The thing I have learned is every note mainly taught me how to find a good mentor that fits how I think and write. It seems everyone has a different opinion, especially when you start pitching and that can lead you down a lot of rabbit holes. For me, once I feel really good about my project and know it fits current professional standards, as my mentor lets me know, then I will return to pitching with the knowledge I am going for the sale and not for a rewrite. Those are my two cents from my experience so far.

Hi Sarah Jones - happy IYW - it's great to meet you! Can you share what LIMINAL is about?
I recommend all of Stage 32's screenwriting courses - there are courses in everything from story structure to dialogue to how to write descriptions to improve reads. Here's a link so you can check them out: https://www.stage32.com/education#screenwriting
