I've shared this with Writers' Room but I wanted to share that I've been reminiscing about my screenwriting classes from college (go CSUN Matadors!) and one of my favorite moments from the class was when our professor had asked us how we start our stories and although there were differing answers, there was a majority of us who agreed that the stories we wanted to tell came from the thought of a scene.
I think storytelling is magically in that way, you can think of a scene and decide if that's the beginning, middle, or end but that thought made me wonder how do other writers come up with their stories? Is it also with the birth of the random scene or is it by way of theme?
There are many ways to create a story, let me know how you come up with ideas, who knows we might find some new way to get the creative juices flowing!

I come up with ideas different ways, Sam Rivera. I look at photos online, watch videos, combine movies (example: Alice in Wonderland meets The Truman Show), and type loglines until I come up with something exciting.

Sometimes I come up with a title and then create my story around the title.

Rather than visual stimuli being writing drivers for me I tend to have things pop into my head, in my mind's eye, and then I sit back and let the weird, cerebral shadow puppet theater go to work...

Sometimes, I'll just start writing the dialogue as fast as I can to not think about it too much and see what the characters have to say.

I already have a listing of ideas that I jot down before I forget them. But I'll never forget my screenwriting class where the professor had us all write a quick short film with only 1 line of dialogue. Thought I had a cool idea. Then the class read all of their ideas... and we all wrote a chase scene. Found out we all suck at screenwriting, LOL. Now, I don't think anyone I went to school with is writing squat, so that makes me the best screenwriter from my school...?

Sometimes we can be lucky it just happens. One night had an idea about a mountain that was so tall no one had ever been able to climb to the the top, or atleast live long enough to tell anyone about it. No ide what or why but it just happened. Five years later I had 4 novels on that idea.

I get alot of my ideas by reading the news on MSN Sam Rivera and watching YouTube, X, and Instagram Reels as well.
