Hello Potential Networking connections,
I am an actor/musician from Cleveland, Ohio. Last April, I was set to play a detective in a slasher flick, but the production was delayed an entire year as the main cast member got a role in a long-running theater production. I used the unexpected free-time to delve into my first screenplay. I have published novels and short stories before, but was surprised by how much I enjoyed learning a whole new way of writing and exploring story. I spent most of the year editing/rewriting and am now starting my next screenplay, knowing enough to know I have a lot to learn. I look forward to picking your brains.
On the music front, my band The Firmary just released a rock EP and on the acting front, I am going to still play that detective this April. Trivial, a revenge torture movie I filmed in 2023 is on fandango and several other streaming sites, and Bunker Heights, Creature feature with a killer cast and crew should be out later this year. Let's connect?

Hey, Douglas Esper. Hope your year's off to a great start! Congratulations to you and your band on releasing the EP! And congratulations on Trivial being released! I think the Buckeyes are gonna win the championship tonight. It's gonna be tough though. What genre(s) is your next script?

Maurice,
Yes, Go Bucks tonight. Should be a fun game.
My first screenplay is a female-fronted coming of age road trip movie set in the rock music industry. My next screenplay is a suspense/thriller whodunnit set during a freak storm on a mountain.
Hope your year is off and running as well!

Hey Douglas Esper - awesome to see you here in the community! You're in such a great community here to network and hone your craft - there are amazing resources here for screenwriters and in every aspect of the industry. Have you checked out The Writer's Room yet? Does your music work or novel writing inform your screenwriting?

Thanks, Douglas Esper. My year's took off running! I'm working on a few projects. "Whodunnit set during a freak storm on a mountain." I love Whodunnit movies. I'm never seen one set during a freak storm on a mountain. Trying to solve a mystery while that high up during a storm sounds intense! Unique concept.

Sam, thanks. Seems like a strong community, growing bigger. I have looked at the writer's room info and it seems like a helpful resource. I think i need to get a few more screenplays under my belt (and learn a lot more of the basics) before I might be ready for that. And yes, my music, acting, and novel writing have all sort of fed into each other and pushed my forward into these other territories. My first tour came about as i was prepping to ghostwrite a biography book, my first acting role came from a tour mate directing his first movie, Dwellers (2020 no-budget, found footage, creature film) and casting me. My first screenplay itch came from ideas I had while on set, seeing and hearing the visual side you don't get to explore in novels. Pretty fun journey so far.

Hi Douglas Esper . Thank you for introducing yourself. I do love a good whodunnit movie. A blizzard where people are stranded is a great idea. Sound like a horror setting too. Maurice- Two movies come to mind, CLUE, AND THEN THERE WERE NONE

You're right, Suzanne Bronson. It does sound like a Horror setting too. I love CLUE. I haven't seen AND THEN WERE NONE. I just added it to my watch list. Thanks.

Suzanna, thanks, and yes, those are two great whodunnit movies ( and books and a board game, heh). My screenplay is set out in the storm, so it has a man (and woman) vs. nature survival plot as well. And Then There Were None is one of my favorite books and is certainly an inspiration on my screenplay.
