Introduce Yourself : Greetings from Kamakura by Patrik Gyltefors

Patrik Gyltefors

Greetings from Kamakura

Hi, I am Patrik, an avid Houdini and Nuke fan, residing in Kamakura, the shogunate era capital of Japan. I just joined Stage 32 hoping to find other filmmakers to collaborate with.

Maurice Vaughan

Welcome to the community, Patrik Gyltefors. Great to meet you. Here's a blog that'll help you navigate Stage 32 and connect with filmmakers, writers, actors, and more: www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-successfully-navigate-the-stage-32-platform-...

I suggest adding more information to your profile bio. It’ll help you build relationships/network on here. You could add things to your bio like why you became a visual effects artist and compositor, your accomplishments, your goals, and what movies and shows you like.

Leonardo Ramirez

Hey Patrik Gyltefors - honored to meet you. My family is asking if we can bunk with you for a few days (just kidding, of course). We're a family of martial artists who have always wanted to visit Japan. Hope you are doing well and welcome to Stage 32!

Patrik Gyltefors

Thanks, and nice to meet you too! Good suggestion Maurice Vaughan, I'll be adding more information to my bio. Leonardo Ramirez, martial arts was the reason I initially came to Japan.

Leonardo Ramirez

That's great Patrik Gyltefors - how long have you been there studying?

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Patrik Gyltefors. Ok, great. Do you have a visual effects reel?

Richard "RB" Botto

You're certainly in the right place, Patrik Gyltefors. And I hope you're already feeling the warmth of this incredible community.

Patrik Gyltefors

Leonardo Ramirez, I have been here since the turn of the millennium, so quite a while now. What martial arts are you doing?

Patrik Gyltefors

Richard "RB" Botto, yes, this seems like a really nice community!

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, Patrik Gyltefors. I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Leonardo Ramirez

American Karate Patrik Gyltefors. All other styles are taught within the system so it's kind of a mix. I had to retire from teaching a short while ago (due to some injuries) but my daughter continues in my place and loves it.

Patrik Gyltefors

Leonardo Ramirez, sorry to hear about your injuries. I got a metacarpus broken during a Karate session, but fortunately that healed quickly.

Leonardo Ramirez

Thanks Patrik Gyltefors. Mine required several surgeries but I still love the milder side of the practice.

Ashley Renee Smith

Welcome to the Stage 32 community, Patrik Gyltefors! It’s great to have someone with your VFX expertise here! Houdini and Nuke are such powerful tools. I’d highly recommend jumping into the Post-Production Lounge to share some of your experience, especially with visual effects workflows or challenges you’ve overcome. It's a great place to share tips and insights with other creatives around the world.

Spending time posting and commenting in the Filmmaking Lounge is also a great way to network with filmmakers and explore potential collaborations. You can find the lounges here: https://www.stage32.com/lounge

Looking forward to seeing more of your work and contributions in the community!

Patrik Gyltefors

Ashley Renee Smith, that you, nice to be here! I'll check out the Post-Production Lounge.

Pat Savage

Patrik Gyltefors welcome to our Stage32 now yours too! It’s great to have someone with your VFX expertise here! Houdini and Nuke are such powerful tools.

Patrik Gyltefors

Thank you, Pat Savage! Great video and music on your Youtube channel, even with footage from my home country Sweden.

Amanda Toney

Thrilled to have you here Patrik Gyltefors! I’d be curious - what films and TV shows inspire your creative post production work?

Patrik Gyltefors

Thanks Amanda Toney, nice to be here! The very first film would be Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan, with the "Genesis Effect", but nowadays Game of Thrones is my all time favorite. There is not much in terms of large scale explosions and such in GoT, and you don't really notice the VFX, but the series has beautiful matte painting work by studios like BlueBolt.

Nick Phillips

Great answer Patrik Gyltefors! The Genesis Effect was one of the first instances of CGI work that I had ever seen, it really blew my mind, I was 9 at the time. Same with Tron that same year!

Patrik Gyltefors

Nick Phillips, yes, nothing really has that kind of impact nowadays.

Patrik Gyltefors

Nick Phillips, talking about CG, when visualizing normals on CG models, my colleagues would always say: "this looks like Hellraiser". Those are cult classics!
