Ok, I am going to put this out there. I have been thinking about this for a while and have been really hesitant to do this for the fear of it not working out. If it doesn’t at least I tried—right? Anyhow, I would like to put together a filmmakers troupe – e.g. Actors –Writers, to practice our craft while simultaneously building reels for the possibility of future work. I am not doing this for a lighting reel or to build my lighting resume as I am very well versed in that area. What I personally am trying to do is challenge myself more as well as gain more experience Directing, Shooting and Cutting. I have all the necessary gear to make this happen; issue is, I just don’t have the actors for the front of the camera. So, if you’re a writer and have a short script you would like to see come to life or an actor who wants to work their chops or an A.D., Producer, Makeup, Designer who would simply like to gain more experience, contact me and lets see what we can collaborate on. Hopefully we can create something that takes you to the next level. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Regards, D.
Hi David, first of all, thanks for the invite! Second, this sounds like an excellent idea. I am new to Los Angeles and looking to make the transition from the stage to film, and would very much appreciate the opportunity to work on my chops in front of a camera as opposed to a live audience. Keep me updated as you move forward with this, I am absolutely interested in being involved!
Great! Will do!
Collaboration is where it all begins, even if just for a small project. I love the idea and enthusiasm!
Hi David. ummm yes! I think I can come up with a short, from a friend or possibly write one from scratch if I had a story line. I've had my eye on you for awhile. I'm in- keep me posted. :)
Hi David. This sounds like a great idea. Please keep me in mind if you'd like to work together on any shorts.

I would gladly write some shorts for this project. I do a lot of online challenges (one week challenges, 24 &48 hrs, etc..) So I can pound out some decent stuff pretty quick.
Hi David, always looking to expand my skills whether its working the chops or behind camera. Keep me posted!

I have found that trying to put together a troupe is difficult unless you are shooting all the time. And that in itself poses issues. Perhaps you could think along a project by project basis. Find a script, set the shooting dates, put together your cast and shoot. You're in Los Angeles - Starbucks is filled with writers and actors.
Hey, David - When you're ready to get it going, hit me up with this, too. Look at the group running Seraph Films (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSeraphFilms). They do very good work on a shoestring budget and actively inform folks of ways to contribute via their social profiles. It can be done. Sure either project by project as Carter pointed out, but I'm one to believe a troupe can work with the right people. All about who want's to dedicate to a single cause for a period of time, yes? I'm up for exploring it because it sounds like a great idea. www.imdb.me/LaneTownsend
I'll definitely lend a hand. Just let me know when you want to get started.

Rik... Just because you have found it difficult to form a troupe, doesn't mean I will run into the same issues. People can choose to be part of this or not based on a project by project basis. Secondly, after working as many years as I have in this business, I am very well versed as to how the filmmaking process works. Lastly, if I wanted writers and actors from Starbucks, I would have posted a bulletin there. Therefore using your same logic... the next time I want a cup of coffee, I should go to the "Actors Studio"... For those of you that have shown a positive interest. Thanks. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to asks. D.
I agree with Rik. It is harder then you think. I have tried to do the same thing many of times. Everyone goes their own direction. Props to you if you can David. I have a few shorts that are easy to shot I can toss your way. And good luck it's a great idea.
David! Where have you been all my life? :) I'm based out of Atlanta, for now, but have been having the same feelings towards a troupe. Trouble is here, just about everyone I've come into contact with are so ego stricken that it's hard to even get a thank you credit in one of their films. But I'm a writer/director so I'm definitely down. Please just keep me posted on the process and EVERYTHING. Can't wait.

Hello David! When you do get a short together, I'd be happy to offer my services as a composer if you need/want original music. I'm a professional ASCAP member with a wide range of credits & experience, but just as importantly I'm a solid team player. Please check out my website and I hope you'll keep me in mind... thanks! www.steve-saunders.com
I have a great talent pool her in ATL that needs footage for their reels....send the roles and sides my way and I will see what I can do to help you with good actors :)
David, I think you hit the jackpot here on Stage32 you should have your project up and running in no time. Good Luck, :D
Hi David, I'm currently working in no budget shorts that will be followed by a 90 min film. We are just starting, have been able to get a few actors and shot our first 9 min short in Spanish, we don't have much gear but I have the creativity and the determination to get our projects done. Though we are currently concentrating on foreign films, hope to work with you some day.
Ok, I have written a short and posted the logline but not the script. Would love to hear thoughts on the logline and title... Do they coincide? Does it piques your interests? Thanks.
Go David!!!
Cool. What kinds of stories are you looking for?
@Rachel.. well told ones where there is substance over flash. Also, if they are contained-- that would be great as well, meaning we don't start with an: AEIRAL shot of the TAJ MAJAL descending down toward the British Army = NO BUENO. But if we start with an AEIRAL SHOT of a Dining Room table and descend upon a British Soldier having a Guinness -- THAN THAT IS DOABLE!
Dont doubt it just do it... some body else will or has... connect with those whom have and synergize together
@Lorena that kind of synergy = money/budget.
What a terrific thread. This is what it's all about. I applaud you all.
David, Just saw this great thread. I am a writer from PA who has written for MoviePoet.com, DVXuser.com, and Simply Scripts.com. Am I too late for the party?
So... has anyone come up with some great shorts?
@D.M. Troop --- Nope, the party hasn't even begun!
David, you have a short- why don't you do it ;)
My actress Clolleen Boag is meeting me for lunch at Bob big boys after our coffee- she's very talented and beautifl, she would be a good fit for yur younger gal- also I'm sure we could talk Brian into being Sean, it's like the part was written for him, I also know a great Kevin and Tim :)
@Richard: Thanks!
Hello David. I would definitely be interested in acting in one of your funds for practice. I have been waiting for this type of opportunity because that is what about need most is ways to practice but also in a form that can be usedvas a demo or reel. awesome idea by the way.

I belong to a group called the Klamath Film Makers Group. A non-profit organization started about a year ago for that very purpose. We've made a few shorts already and have more in the works. The group is growing (albeit slowly), but most importantly we're gaining experience and having fun. Don't give up on the idea. Ironically, we assumed that this was already being done everywhere else.

I would love to be active in a film makers group but between fashion shows... mommyhood... working on my 2nd degree.. and seeking a part timer and doing the LGBT allience club at school with Fashion Stitch I have not time to be in one right... now... Im apart of a few online ones via facebook but I mostly just post ads of fashion events... there snever enough time in the day to do much. Lol
David, look up my son, Nick Palatas, on imdb and let me know if you'd like to include him as an actor. If so, I'll get you to in touch with each other :)
Sure... Count me in.......
I'm game
