About Gary

Gary L. Ivey is an author and screenwriter with a background in ministry and business. He received dual bachelor’s degrees in Theology and Broadcast Communication. He has been a pastor, a magazine editor, a media producer/director/editor, a digital artist, a web developer, a novelist and screenwriter.
Having written several screenplays over the years, he began submitting his screenplays to festivals for the first time in 2021. At his first attempt, he won “Best Script” for his screenplay “Looking for Morning” at the Branson International Film Festival. Since then, the screenplay has been honored at many festivals, including winning the Christian Film Festival and being runner up in two categories (Best Drama and Faith-Based) at the Hollywood Dreams Film Festival in Las Vegas.
After experiencing some success, he submitted other screenplays to festivals. “Vale of Shadows,” a Christian supernatural thriller was accepted at a variety of festivals, won the Christian Film Festival and was a semi-finalist at the Atlanta Movie Awards and the Nashville Independent Filmmakers Festival. “Flyboy,’ a World War II Action Adventure screenplay has also been accepted at a number of festivals, becoming a nominee at the Oakland Film Awards, a Finalist at the 2022 Screenplay Festival and semi-finalist at Santa Monica Film Awards and Atlanta Movie Awards.
“Looking For Morning,” “Vale of Shadows” and “Flyboy” are all optioned by a producer/manager and are in pre-production.
A ministry in Northern California recently contracted Ivey to write a screenplay adaptation of a memoir that is in pre-production.
To experience life on set, he worked as an extra on a variety of productions, including Aaron Spelling’s “Savannah” (seven episodes), “Glory” starring Matthew Broderick and “Fled” starring Stephen Baldwin and Laurence Fishburne.
During this time, he continued to write screenplays, one of which was considered by the TNT network when it was one of the few cable channels doing original TV movies.
Ivey conceived and wrote Age of the Kingdom (originally “Thine is the Kingdom”) as a novel (unpublished), then decided to turn it into a TV series. In the course of writing the novel, Ivey read a number of books and commentaries and even began learning Hebrew, so he could consult the original language of the Old Testament.
