Born in Pensacola, Florida, Dana Hawthorne has been writing for twelve years, completing her first novel at 12. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving a bachelors degree in the Fine Arts. Hawthorne has worked as a news producer, social media director, web designer, voice actress, and illustrator. In 2017, she was honored nationally by the Kennedy Center’s VSA Playwright Foundation. Her scripts have placed in/won multiple competitions since. Her works often focuses on mental health issues, as she suffers from depression, anxiety, and untreated brain injuries.
Unique traits: Screenwriting, playwright, novelist, poet, tv writer, short film screenwriter. Heavy interest in sci-fi/spec-fi, horror (psychological, paranormal, creature feature, crime, found footage, etc.), and addressing political/social topics like mental health advocacy, veterans affairs, LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s rights, issues of racism, issues of ableism, gun control, and much more. Outside of writing, I also illustrate and sometimes animate.
