Sophie Blackstone arrives in Owens Valley with her children just as the California Water Wars begin to escalate. On the way into the valley she kills a man who tries to steal her horse. John Emerson (Fredrick Eaton) of the Los Angeles Water and Power District immediately targets her homestead for its water and lake. Sophie has no intention of selling her water or her property but Emerson is ruthless and uses the murder of the horse thief of discredit her in an attempt to steal her land.
