Fantastic read, and timely on my end! Thank you Jodie!
Thank you for the great crowdfunding tips.
I needed NEEDED to read this!! Booyeah!!! Thank you Jodie! Thank you Stage32!
You're welcome Minka :)
Nice work, Jodie. I appreciate the straight-forward approach and determination to Think Bigger.
I love this article! You can apply it your your own person life!! "You are one of the few people in this world who have the heart, drive and guts to pursue your passion. Not many people do that. Seriously. Value yourself. Honor yourself. Don’t play down what it is your doing. Stop apologizing for it. Know your worth." Speaking Words of Wisdom!
Yes you can Johnny. Yes you can. :)
Great article thank you, as I am in the process of putting together a crowdfunding campaign for my second series of Four Seasons of Greece, this is great advice
You're welcome Christina!

How we overcome this is through critical thinking, which is to say we must think ABOUT the thoughts we have. I wear a rubber band around my wrist and when I have lack or limiting thoughts I snap it hard! Having been VP Sales in various industries I have always taught sales teams that the key to success is 'enrolling' clients in US. In order to do that we MUST believe in ourselves. When the client is enrolled, what's being sold is of little consequence. The power of Intention bears fruit for those that believe. Great post and thank you so much for sharing!

Especially in the downtime. Love the rubber band thing! I've done that before. have you done The Millionaire Mind Intensive? That's where I got it from. And yeah, power of intention indeed. And yes, what is being sold is of little consequence. Just like your rewards in the crowdfunding campaign are of little consequence. They are investing in YOU not a dvd of your film.

In fact I've been working for months on a transmedia storyworld using it as the theme. Resistance is the most insidious, protean force that can keep us from the 'unlived life'. Having the tools you mention are the only way to win. Would love to chat with you sometime :)
I get it. Set your price. 5 bucks is a thought. In the scheme of things, you don't want to nickel and dime your project. And it should be worth more than that. I think potential donors will get it too.
I would like to know how to know the right persons to call or email and ask for donating $ 10,000. I think it is wise to first think about who would like or has an interest in the film/story that you want to realize and then write down a phone list. Like you want to make a documentary about how to make money and call the richest people you can find, ask them if they would tell you their story and if they would donate. This is a win win situation as they feel more important then. I have difficulties or would feel ashamed if they donate and only get t-shirt. I mean they buy a t-shirt for let's say a donation of $ 25 and don't know whether they will like this t-short or not. :)) So, what kind of win would be wise? Further you already have to calculate the production of these t-shirts and other things into the amount you want to collect which means you need a very good production plan or business plan and then add some thousands for cases of emergency.

Expand commentJodie, thanks for your reply. So you mean I simply have to sell the idea respectively their participation on something great? Get them with their passion for films or for the topic of the film/project or whatever and explain them that they will be important for this project and will be a part of it? True, this will work with the right enthusiastic people. I agree totally concerning the T-shirt, but this is what people offer on these crowdfunding pages. So I would not know what to offer as a reward. The question is where to find better rewards, They should make sense and be unique. Something people will really want to have, I think this is necessary additionally to your concept. The T-shirt (and posters btw) was just an example as it is what you find most on crowdfunding pages.

Expand commentFirst rule of sales, find out what motivates the other person and capitalize on it! And rewards, we have a whole training section in our program on rewards. Yes everyone does a poster or a t-shirt or a dvd. Why not do a signed digital poster? Or a script signed by the writer and director? Or experience rewards. There are SO many options. You just have to think outside the box.

I have tried crowdfunding in the past and failed. This has helped. I think I will be ready to try again. Thank you.
Awesome Shawnee. Yeah, crowdfunding is tough. 55% of crowdfunders fail, so don't feel bad about it. This time plan, plan, plan. I find 3 months of prep is key. You can do this. :)
Thank you very much

I have a friend that is helping me to organize my funding and production. He is looking through his business contacts for potential investors. He was in sales and business for decades. I know someone who is an experienced line-producer and offers his services as a crowdfunding consultant for cheap. I have some resources. Do you need to have a full production team and actors first? How many campaigns can you have for one project? I also know about Seed and Spark, as the founder was one of the speakers at the workshop.

Expand commentHey Anna. I just spoke on a panel at Comicon with Erica Anderson, the founder of Seed & Spark. Great lady. In my experience unless your social clout and followers are staggering, I find most people can raise about $5000 doing a crowdfunder on their own. If you need $25K that means you need 5 team members. Someone who is working just as hard as you to ensure the success of the project. Yes, you must look into investors or big donations. Glad you're also going down that route. IN terms of production team ad actors onboard - of course the more people included in the project the more exposure the project will get. People want to support their friends. And it becomes less of a vanity project when you make it about others. I have had at most 2 campaigns per project, but it all depends on how you spin it. We did a main campaign and then a post production campaign. If you want to talk more deeply https://secure.jotform.co/reinventingfilms/crowdfundinginquiry
What a fantastic blog. Be positive, focus on feeling good, have a plan and believe. What a great recipe for life.
Thanks Andrew. Indeed. With a LOT of strategy and hard work in between ;)
You are welcome, Jodie. I live to be inspired and this article filled me with good feeling.
thank you, jodie. this speaks to me on many levels, as i'm now thinking about how to raise money for my indie feature. it's scary, even while knowing that i believe in my project.

And you can believe in your project all you want, but how can you get others to believe? That's why i wrote this article because it does start with you. Then how do you manifest that into an action plan to make sure you make your money. Push through fear!!
yep. i'm working on it. hopefully i'll get to the place you seem to be at around this issue… thanks.
You will lady. And it's a constant growing process. I am still raising my threshold daily and being conscious. $100 used to scare me. Now it's $500K. :) Always expanding.
This is a FANTASTIC & well timed write up! We're on the brink of launching a crowd-sourcing campaign. Thank you Mrs. Bentley & Stage 32!
You're welcome Marcelo! Glad I could help. Let me know if you have other questions!
This is a very interesting take on crowdfunding -- one that I've not really seen before. Those are some pretty big things to think about, especially raising $$ threshold. It makes sense; if you have a larger budget, you need higher donations than just a $5 "Thank you". Thanks for sharing!
Thanks William. Yeah, it's the difference between raising say $7K on your crowdfunder or $60K. And we know we will ALWAYS need more money.
nice point of view! thanks! I want to start mine ;)
Thanks David!! Great do it!! Just make sure to prep it and build your team. It's about a 3 month process.
Nice post. Especially the "money threshold" concept. I've experienced it myself and see it often in others.
Thanks Joe. Yeah, I have too. Sometimes it is single biggest obstacle that holds people back in this industry. It is fascinating. It is the brain battling with the desire to get one's project made AND with the feeling of undeservedness.
This is very interesting. I'll have to keep this in mind if I ever crowdfund a project.
Thanks Brian. :)
I`m just about to launch a Kickstarter campaign and so this has been a very timely article. Many thanks
You're welcome Sharon! Build your team and launch away.
