About Warren

me...

I have always loved sci-fi, E.T and Star Wars were my favourite movies to watch. My goal as a youngster was to become an aeronautical engineer, so that I could design a spaceship to travel into space, for me to find aliens and to drive a Lamborghini Countach.

In 1996 I registered at CPUT to define my goals in life and discovered that as an Industrial designer I could design anything man made. Finally my path in design was written…
Whilst studying and researching architecture and Philip Starck, I discovered filmmakers such as Jim Henson and George Lucas in the History of Art Library and a seed was planted.

I qualified in 2000, and got offered a job to work in a props fabrication studio called MODELMAN, I ended up discovering the Cape Town film industry through commercials. After learning the art of fabrication in every form, I ended up running the studio after 2 years and then decided to go freelance. To move on and work for CFX – who specialize in animatronics and soft props, Mila - TVC commercial props and Alchemy studios that specialize in table topping and automated camera rigs.

At CFX I was introduced to Art Directors and Production Designers from Disney, this is when I discovered a career.

In 2005 I started a design studio that serviced the real world and the film industry and at the same time, I got offered set design jobs on feature film because of my skill and abilities as a draughtsman and a modeler on Sketch up.

In 2006 I met my wife, we started a family and I decided to follow my dream to become a Production Designer. I resigned from my business and discovered I needed more accreditation in set design and art direction

From 2006 - 2012 I ended up working on numerous television series, feature films, and commercials.

In 2012 , Kalahari Pictures called me in to pitch for a position as Production designer on a television series. I put together a pitch document with designs based on the synopsis and treatments. After going up against all of my peers, at 35 years old I became one of a few young production designers to hit the market doing big features in South Africa.
To date i have just completed "where the white man runs away" as supervising art director an have been put forward for 3 international features as production designer.

Unique traits: Im an Industrial designer by qualification but a Production Designer by trade Sketches and Skechup are my tools which i have mastered over the past 21 years.
