Rex McGee's SMU workshop INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING begins on campus Monday, January 23!

Rex McGee is a protege of the legendary filmmaker Billy Wilder (Some Like It Hot), and has sold over 20 scripts for film and television since receiving his B.A. in Cinema from the University of Southern California. He has worked in both Los Angeles and Texas as a screenwriter and journalist, and he currently conducts screenwriting and creativity workshops at SMU. His film credits include Warner Brothers’ PURE COUNTRY, starring George Strait and Lesley Ann Warren; the Hallmark Channel's WHERE THERE'S A WILL, starring Marion Ross and Keith Carradine; and the IMAX film TEXAS: THE BIG PICTURE at the Texas State History Museum in Austin. A member of the Writers Guild of America West and the Dramatists Guild of America, Rex has collaborated on his screenplays with directors Jon Amiel, Peter Masterson, Robert Mulligan and Billy Wilder. He recently adapted his own original screenplay of PURE COUNTRY for the musical stage.

A member of the Writers Guild of America, West and Dramatists Guild, I have collaborated on my screenplays with directors Jon Amiel, Peter Masterson, John Putch, Robert Mulligan and Billy Wilder. I adapted my own original screenplay of PURE COUNTRY for the musical stage, and it will premiere in April, 2020 at Houston’s Theater Under the Stars.
