Jim Petrak is the proud owner and Head Engineer of Sound Surfers Audio Post Production. With over 70 films to his name, Jim is a highly established and respected re-recording mixer and sound designer within the South African and African film industry.
Jim has worked on numerous local and international projects working along side notable producers and directors such as John Boorman, Phillip Noyce, Gavin Hood and Bronwyn Hughes. His numerous credits include most notably the Oscar award winning film “Tsotsi”, “Stander”, “Red Dust”, 2013 SAFTA nomination for best sound “Semi-Soet”, the AMAA award winning films for Sound Design “Shirley Adams” and “State of Violence”, “Drum”, Canadian film “Inescapable” and most recently “Black South Easter” produced by “Jerusalema” producer Tendeka Matatu and “Nothing for Mahala” directed by Rolie Nikiwe.
In October 2008 Jim started Sound Surfers Audio Post Production. Since then Sound Surfers has won 2 African Academy Awards, been nominated for an additional 3 for best achievement in Sound, been nominated 4 times for best sound design in a feature film at the SAFTA's (South African Film and Television Awards) having won in 2014 and has quickly become Africa's most respected and sought after audio production companies.
