About Judy

I co-wrote the cable film version of Julia Alvarez's novel In the Time of the Butterflies. It stars Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos and Marc Anthony. One of my stage plays was nominated for an Edgar and it is published by Samuel French/Concord Theatricals. Another is published by Next Stage Press, and another won the SOPS competition and is published by Lazy Bee Scripts in the UK. Another won the Dorothy Silver Award. One of my screenplays, Au Pair Girl, was optioned four times in Hollywood -- and I turned it into a YA book published by a small press. The screenplay is under option again, and received a score of 75 on Slated. A company in Canada has me under contract to write an animated film that will appeal to both kids and adults. I write thriller screenplays, rom coms and family films.

Unique traits: I have a background in stand-up and sketch comedy, a good ear for dialogue, and I'm a songwriter with cuts in a number of countries. (Some of the songs have been singles and hits.)

  • In the Time of the Butterflies

In the Time of the Butterflies (2001)
TV Movie by Mariano Barroso (Crime, Drama, History, Romance and 1 More) Writer On November 25, 1960, the bodies of three sisters were found near the bottom of a cliff on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The official daily 'El Caribe' reports that it had been an accident, but it does not mention that a fourth sister lives. Nor does it mention the sisters' fierce opposition to the General Trujillo's dictatorship. This is their story: how Minerva started the tragedy by refusing Trujillo; how Patria became an opponent from the church itself; how Maria Teresa joined the revolution through the love. And how they lost their wings, but not their courage. They were Las Mariposas - "The Butterflies". Written by Diana Heche <dianaheche@hotmail.com>
