Hi Adam, thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I've been almost 2 years traveling the world, and have been doing almost the same you do but related to music for film. Definitely your experience sounds familiar to me and it helps me to move on when we have a "no or no answer". Cheers!
Perfect advice, thanks for sharing!

Expand commentHey! It's going to be difficult to add something else to your great post, but I'll try: My first "problem" is I didn't have a plan, I had only an idea or feeling about what I was going to do, but nothing concrete. I started traveling for other reasons than music and during my trip I realized it could be a perfect chance to make and consolidate new contacts. With time this idea became more concrete and I decided to split my time in two. In one side: finding good local performers and recording studios (my providers); on the other side: finding filmmakers and producers (my clients). The first was quite easy, I basically started attending concerts and speaking to musicians, and my new contacts were growing up exponentially. I think it was easy cos it was me who was offering something to them, like an opportunity or job for them. The second one it was absolutely difficult as I have (or had ;) a leak in my selling skills. Here is where I found your post absolutely useful! (i.e. my wrong thing was precisely I was trying to sell something, instead of just making contacts). So, in conclusion: I would say almost everything you want is possible, specially when you love what you do, BUT you need a plan and to be aware of your context. In this (mine or whatever) plan there are a few but important things to consider: short-mid-long term purposes, financial plan, a plan B for almost everything. And, in my case, not to desperate and don't let bad news affect my mood (for example: you had a very good feeling about that project, it was almost everything arranged, and finally project was cancelled or something went wrong. Then I need 1 week to move on, so I lost 1 week from my time.) This looks like a very personal thing, but I wanted to share with you as for me it was the greatest thing I learnt. Keeping myself in a positive way, no matter how are news, good or bad, is what makes me feel balanced to write music, that indeed is what I love to do. Excuse me if I've been too long or I said obvious things. Hope someone would find my post interesting! I've been traveling mainly in Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines for 8 months and almost a year around NYC. Now I'm in Barcelona for some weeks, then London and then Asia again. Any comments to my thoughts will be welcome!! Cheers!
Nice to be on your friends network!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH RAMON.....

Very impressive! I enjoyed listening to your music, Ramon. What sound libraries are you using?
Thanks both for your comments! I use mainly VSL (Viena). I'll check your profiles to see your work too, and I'll get back :)
... also, there are several pieces hybrid: recorded real instruments mixed with sampled ones. that usually works quite well.
One of the exciting things I've learnt as a composer has been to understand, to feel, when a scene works better silent, with no music! For those who want to listen what I've done for the non-silent-scenes, here's my (mp3) reel. Hope you like it! https://soundcloud.com/ramonpolo/sets/reel-2014 Select...
