About Patrick

Some of Patrick’s earliest memories are of lying on the floor of his bedroom reading the Junior Classics, Hardy Boys, and anything to do with mythology. His favorite super heroes were the ones who aren’t born with powers, but develop skills that they use to help others. He was also a card-carrying Man From U.N.C.L.E.

In third grade, Patrick coveted his classmate’s St. Christopher medal, and was dismayed to learn that Presbyterians don’t believe in St. Christopher. (Many Catholics don’t either, anymore, but the legends — and the medals — persist.) Catholic saints took up residence with the super heroes in his imagination. He was particularly impressed by the California missions.

Torn between the lure of a life in the theater and becoming a “creative writer,” Patrick abandoned his leaky fountain pen for footlights and fame, eventually earning a Master’s degree in Theater from the University of Denver. He performed in dinner theater and community productions, and taught Drama and English Composition courses at Ojai Valley School, then later at Colorado Christian University.

Since a “Master’s” degree implies some level of mastery, he graduated from acting to directing and ultimately playwriting, or as he likes to call it, “playing God.” He has approximately 30 published plays, most of which were written for Colorado ACTS, a Christian-run drama school.

Now in his late 50s, Patrick is returning to fiction writing, with a particular interest in historical/supernatural adventure fiction.

Patrick serves as a chaplain for InnovAge, providing spiritual healthcare to frail seniors, and visiting palliative care patients. He is happily married to a real-life saint (and therefore super hero) named Abby, and likes to go running with his Black Lab/Great Dane rescue dog Frankie.
