I REALLY FEEL THAT ARE AUDITIONS ARE A WASTE OF TIME, AND THEN SOMEWHERE THEY ALWAYS ASK FOR MONEY...WHAT A RIP OFF...
I agree with Tiffy. Stay encouraged actor Bryan Cranston said something profound. Check out the link http://youtu.be/v1WiCGq-PcY

As to actual auditions... well. If you want to act, go on auditions. At worst, they are a chance to practice your craft in front of others and hone your skill set. At best.... you'll get a part in a project.

Expand commentIt's very sad that there are scam artists out there. I can tell you from experience that there have always been con artists and scammers that prey on beginners who don't know how the industry works. It used to be more common in the major markets like L.A., but people are more knowledgeable out here because they have more access to good information on who's legit and who's BS. Fortunately, the Internet has given everyone access to looking up people and social media sites like Stage32 give you a community that you can ask questions and learn from. It's so much better now. There are members from all over the country who can communicate with each other. It's a great resource. Once you've worked in this business, you'll learn really quickly how things really work and will be able to smell the BS a mile away. We've all experienced these con artists and sometimes still run into one now and then, but you'll be savvy enough to walk the other way and hold tightly to your wallet.
You should never have to pay for an audition for a legit project. Just like one should not have to pay someone upfront to be their agent.

Hi Sonia! Try posting this in the Job Postings section if you haven't already done so. Best of luck!
I'm hoping to find other Tucson (and surrounding area) folks who would like to meet up. Let's do it!
Are you aware of IFASA meetings first Tuesday of every month and The Gangplank (changing its name) downtown. Good gang of folks. Let's get Stage 32 and IFASA on the same call sheet!
Philip, yes I am aware of the IFASA meetings. Unfortunately, those first Tuesdays are nearly impossible for me to free up. :-(

My film/tv background includes many years of production experience, mainly as a POC and PM (though if I had it to do over, I would have done some time in wardrobe.) Anyway, I moved to Los Angeles and eventually segued into film financing with a bank and then into development with a small but highly respected production company. After 6 years with that company, I moved back to Arizona to produce projects there. (Note: I’m still on the lookout for projects that would might be a good fit for the LA production company.) I am also currently line producing a web-series pilot and in pre-production on a feature that is scheduled to shoot Fall 2014.

I begin shooting this Sunday, and it's all gone be done on a IPhone and IPad! Crazy right?
Congrats, stay legit and professional. Focus on quality.
If you get real sound. Most will put up with edgy visual IE 480 in a 1080 world, but if the sound is bad or mixed bad....You are wasting your time.

How do I recognize and protect the interests of the person who came up with the idea? Do I list him in the title page of the script with CONCEPT BY XXXXX, WRITTEN BY YYYYY. Or do I list him as a co-writer? And is listing this person on the cover page the best way to do this? I'm looking to the experience on Stage 32 to come to the rescue.
Credits are decided by WGA and it is all based on who did the actual writing. You might have a deal for the money with the concept person, but they may never get a credit.
Very true, Bill, but Mark is asking how to credit someone on the title page of a spec pilot. Any thoughts on that?
Mark, I like the fact that you are going out of your way to get information on how to protect someone else's interests. Good on you. I mean it :)
@ D Marcus - They can instruct their lawyers to try to get an exec/associate/consulting producer credit.
Julio, thanks for the collaboration agreement form, it was exactly what I needed.
Actors, entertainers, and filmmakers: You get to tell yourself at age six one bit of career advice for the future. What is it?
Great post, Sgt. Charles. In this age, networking is what separates the have's from the have not's.
Very funny, Ken! Last two remarks were great. Although, even though I didn't love the ending, I don't regret riding the LOST train (or Oceanic plane).
So glad you mentioned Walkabout. Early on, maybe during season 2, I watched the first season on DVD. The first couple of episodes, I had one toe in the pool. Walkabout was the episode that made me jump in head first. Just a remarkable hour of television. Fantastic writing.

If you had an upcoming, out-of-town shoot that needed a green screen studio, what resources (website, listing, Google, etc) would you all hit up to locate one? We're trying to promote our studios/sound stages a little more and want to hit any untapped resources that might be out there. Thanks!

I am after a free Wordpress theme for a website for one of our shorts. Recommendations anyone?
There are free ones included with Wordpress.
Wordpress itself offers some freebie themes. You can choose one of those and tweek if desired.
None of the Wordpress free themes are really suitable for a film site. Best possible WP options are the photo ones but they are more for photo blogs. Most suitable free one I've found so far that works for a film is LENSA photo theme by Colorlabs but it's very buggy.
