MASKS
By Matthew Parvin

GENRE: Thriller, Horror
LOGLINE:

A Vietnam Vet working in 1970's Detroit goes for a restful weekend with three friends up north. What he gets is a descent into a world he never knew existed with people he thought he knew. When their secrets are revealed, all hell breaks loose. Then again, the Vet has some secrets of his own...

SYNOPSIS:

1976.

Detroit, Michigan. "Murder Capital of the World". With crime and death and cruelty awash in this concrete jungle, death is inevitable. But someone is starting to fight back. Someone clad in black and donning skull mask attached to a combat helmet is killing those who prey on the weak and the wounded. The papers call him "Vigilante". The cops call him "killer". In the streets, he's known as "Wykked".

Michelle Norman is going nowhere. A dead-end job, a dead-end boyfriend. A dead-end life. After two men, Phil and John, inform her that Harvey, her boyfriend, is in trouble, her dead-end life turns into just a dead-end. Now she's traveling up north to god-knows where to face god-knows-what.

Danny Richter is a nobody. Newly hired at a steel foundry, he's travelling to northern Michigan for a weekend of fishing, football and fun with co-workers. His buddies, Phillip Downing and John Donahue, seem nice enough. So does Phillip's wife, Adrienne. For a Vietnam Vet with no friends and a new job, the invitation seems like a stroke of good luck.

At a cabin deep in the woods of Northern Michigan, Michelle will come face to face with evil in its purest form. Danny will be faced with an impossible choice and learn that the face of evil is never grotesque and ugly. It's attractive, seductive. It can look just like a friend.

And in the shadows, where there is no one to hear the screams, a vigilante and killer will become something else entirely: a hero.

Once again, the log line is too long. First: When a Vietnam veteran (is he an Vietnamese animal doctor or a war veteran?) goes on holiday with three friends, he learns they are not what they seem as they sink into depravity, but they soon learn he is not the person they know either.
