Well hello there. I'm JM.
I've spent over a decade in the TV industry in Australia where I've had the opportunity to direct, edit and create motion graphics for companies like Disney, Nickelodeon, Nintendo, Monopoly, and many more. I also directed a feature length documentary which was offical selection at the American Documentary Film Festival and heavily featured through the Transitions film festival. With the short film version being screened at the Cannes Film Festivals short film corner.
I'm heavily inspired by the work of Carl Jung, dancing the line between chaos and order to find the heart and soul of the stories that need to be told. Combined with a wild sense of humour, it makes for a kind of eccentric combination.
My passion project is developing an adult animated comedy about the chaotic inner workings of the mind through the characters of Ego, Atman, Memory, Miggy and Monkey.
I’m passionate about this series because I’ve struggled with some mental health issues stemming from childhood trauma, and on the journey to figure out my own head I found out how funny it is to stop and observe this primitive piece of meat inside our skulls that’s just trying to deal with the modern world and the people in it.
I grew up with a mentally ill father and experienced the significant and heavy shadow that mental health issues cast. When it came time for my own mental health journey, it was hard to wade through the dense and heavy spectrum of information out there. That was until I met a monk. The Monk inspired me to take a more light-hearted and joyful approach to healing my mind. I found that comedy made a massive difference in my journey of healing and I believe that intelligent and soulful ideas about the mind combined with a wildly entertaining and funny show can make a real difference to people.
Unique traits: I've worked hard to help myself, my family and many others heal from trauma. That journey taught me some incredible lessons which I want to share through stories. I'm also a little bit obsessed with playing with big philosophical ideas from thinkers like Carl Jung, Friedrich Nietzsche, Father Richard Rohr, Joseph Campbell, Brené Brown and many others.
Monkey and Me Comedy Monkey & Me takes place in two very different worlds. The real world where Mac is desperatel selling his soul to try and pay his bills; and the wild and mystical world of his inner psyche where Ego leads a dysfunctional crew facing the unbridled chaos of past traumas in Mac’s Mind.
