Mixed Asian Media and Leviathan Lab Announce the Inaugural Mixed Asian Day in Los Angeles on September 14, 2024
Los Angeles, CA – August 20, 2024 – Mixed Asian Media, in collaboration with Leviathan Lab, proudly announces the first-ever Mixed Asian Day to be held in Los Angeles on September 14, 2024. This historic event is dedicated to celebrating the rich and diverse identities within the Mixed Asian community, including Asian adoptees, and aims to foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
Mixed Asian Day is more than just a celebration; it is a movement to highlight the unique experiences and perspectives that enrich the Asian Pacifica narrative. Whether you are mixed, an Asian adoptee, or an ally who values and supports inclusivity, your presence is a valued thread in this diverse tapestry.
Last year Mixed Asian Day debuted in New York City with over 250 people in attendance. Mixed Asian Media is so excited to be bringing this day to Los Angeles on Saturday September 14, 2024, and it is free to the public, all ages are welcome to attend!
"I grew up in Los Angeles as a child actor where no one looked like me and I was constantly being told I wasn't enough of either of my heritages,” expresses Alex Chester-Iwata the founder of Mixed Asian Media. She continues, “ I even had a couple of major TV show contracts pulled from me because I was 'too exotic next to the [white] lead and would pull focus.' This constant battle of having to prove my self-worth to not only casting but to myself really took its toll on me mentally. This is why I created Mixed Asian Media, so that people like me can feel seen and heard and are able to celebrate their mixedness, not hide from it. And what better way to do this but with a specific day just for us, Mixed Asian Day!"
Mixed Asian Day is proudly sponsored and supported by some of the leading Asian Pacific leaders, organizations and businesses including: Gold House, CAPE USA, IW Group, Cold Tea Collective, Joy Sauce, 1587 Sneakers, ACE Next Gen, Subtle Asian Baking, Very Asian Foundation, Yao King, Dr. Clayton Hoi-Yun McClintock Blasian March, Timid Mag, Hello Hapi, Lotus Mag, Asians in Advertising, American Advertising Federation - Los Angeles, The Lunar Collective, The Serica Initiative, The Mixed Race, Golden Guide, Multiracials Americans of Southern California, Mixed Present and more.
"A dynamic, evolving, and rapidly growing segment of the U.S. population are mixed-race Asians,” states Bill Imada, the CCO of IW Group. “As marketers and intercultural communicators, IW Group benefits greatly from its partnership with Mixed Asian Media. And every time we visit with their leaders, we learn even more about the challenges, interests, and aspirations of mixed-race and multi-ethnic Asians."
Mixed Asian Media is thrilled to be partnering with Co-MRKT for the Mixed Asian Day Pop-Up Marketplace. Their mission is to amplify, uplift, and unite AAPI creators so that they have a chance to thrive by creating space, promoting integration and increasing visibility.
“As the founder of an inclusive creative community, being part of Mixed Asian Day is an absolute privilege,” affirms Jessica Millet, the founder of Co-MRKT. “Co-MRKT thrives because we provide a safe space for folks to be their authentic selves and encourage their ongoing journey of self-discovery. I've had the pleasure of hosting a lot of mixed Asian vendors who bring so much of their identity into their work and I look forward to having them participate in this exciting event, amplifying their stories!”
