About Christopher

Christopher Hain is a screenwriter focusing on drama, that is frequently political, historical, or legal.

With a background in political, investigative, and features journalism, I've spent years studying and honing the craft of building narratives -- whether historical, contemporary or humorous – first in prose and now for several years for TV and film.

I'm also interested in science-fiction, crime, and noir. I'm less interested in action, fantasy, super hero, or horror -- unless it's very character driven and has a lot of subtext.

*** I'm looking to meet and network with other LA-based writers to give/offer feedback, encouragement, etc. ***

Some of my favorite TV series include:

*DRAMA -- The Knick, Better Call Saul, The Good Fight, Mad Men, The Wire, The Sopranos, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Mrs. America, Bojack Horseman, Succession, I May Destroy You, Babylon Berlin, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, The Underground Railroad

*COMEDY/DRAMEDY – Veep, Fleabag, Dave, Ted Lasso, Broad City, Peep Show, Frasier, Seinfeld, Silicon Valley, The Great, The Good Place, Mr. Show, Monty Python, Chapelle’s Show, Barry, Schitt’s Creek, Crashing (Pete Holmes),

* GENRE -- Station 11, Watchmen, Game of Thrones, Battlestar Gallactica, X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation (exceptions to my genre dislikes)

Some of my favorite films:

* The Favourite, Ex Machina, Requiem for A Dream, There Will Be Blood, The Florida Project, Birdman, Vertigo, L'Avventura, The Thin Man, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Psycho, Do The Right Thing, The Big Lebowski, Annie Hall, Michael Clayton

Christopher, who studied journalism, politics, and film in college, worked for years as a newspaper reporter covering politics from small cities to Washington D.C. He's interviewed Nancy Pelosi, John Kerrey, Bob Dole, and Donald Trump, among others. His two favorite stories were uncovering a bribery scheme of a local Florida politician who was eventually pardoned by Trump, and posing as a 'john' in a Palm Beach brothel to uncover a crooked government land deal.

In addition to drama and journalism, Christopher has written short stories (science fiction, young adult, and magical realism), a humor book, a few sales and marketing books and is polishing up a non-fiction book proposal.

In all his writing, Chris brings a disciplined, process-oriented approach and has developed an arsenal of tools to continuously scrutinize and improve the stories and characters he’s developing.
