Sally Deering just completed her new play, When There Are Nine about Ruth Bader Ginsburg which will open in Chicago in February. As well as playwriting, Sally has written and directed ten short films including Impasse which won Best Comedy Screenplay at the NYC Downtown Short Film Festival in 2019, and Aunt Sadie Loved a Lady which was named Audience Favorite at the Barrymore Film Center’s Short Film Festival in February. Aunt Sadie was just selected by the Palm Springs Film Festival which happens in September.
Early experiences in Sally’s writing career include the 13 years she spent as a weekly columnist and daily features writer for The Jersey Journal, where she earned several writing awards including Best Columnist in New Jersey from the NJ Press Association two years in a row. . Sally went on to work as co-writer on several musicals including Dr. Sex which earned seven (7) Joseph Jefferson Awards in Chicago and, from there, moved to Off Broadway at the Peter Norton Theater. Sally has written two novellas that are available on Kindle, The Apple That Fell From The Orange Tree, and Thesbian, which she has since written as a screenplay. Sally holds a bachelor’s degree in Media Arts from New Jersey City University.
