Mike Massey

I'm a business lawyer in Jackson, Mississippi. Was a CPA before going to law school. I've always played guitar but only in the past several years did I start opening my mouth to sing. I'm the father of three grown children, an avid outdoorsman (). I started writing songs several years ago and finally ventured into Blue Sky Studios and started recording. I released an album called "Empty Magnets" in July of 2021. I play acoustic guitar and mostly get comparisons stylistically to Prine, Cash, Nelson, VanZandt, Taylor, and any artist who made sure to feature some acoustic sound in their songs. I'm a pretty fair storyteller, and like to write about "real" issues, like families losing a song to opioids (Empty Magnets), or the largest ICE roundup in US history in my birthplace of Morton, MS (Pedro), keeping a marriage going for 30 years (Long Ride), our precious veterans (Navy Man). A few days ago I put out "Little Ukraine Girl". Songs come to be easily but I'm might late to just now be starting to release music (age 57). Also too busy lawyering to really get out and perform, so my best avenue to make a difference will likely be writing songs that get picked up in film, or by other artists. I'm Netflix junkie, old movie junkie and LOVE a good story. "The piles are too high and there's too much to do" (Race you've been running). Anxious to sit back and see what ya'll do.
