About Rahman

Rahman Ali Bugg is a veteran television producer with credits that span multiple formats, genres and networks. With notable supervisor/coordinator credits on music performance shows like VH1’s Hip Hop Honors, The YouTube Music Awards, and most recently MTV Woodies 2016, Rahman’s live format experience is proven and respected across broadcast and digital platforms. Most recently his work on Viceland’s King of The Road Finale, VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: The Wedding and BET’s 20 of 2015 End Of Year Special as well as the BET News Millennial initiative: What’s At Stake, illustrate his ability to tackle any budget, format, genre and style of storytelling.

Rahman’s hands-on approach to producing and developing ideas makes him a more than capable producer/director on a set as well as in an edit. This combination of skill and talent proves an invaluable asset in his roles as an executive producer/showrunner. His informed leadership and creativity led him to an NABJ Award for his contributions to the BET’s Hip Hop vs America News Special and most recently a 2015 Cynopsis Social Good Award for the aforementioned, What’s At Stake digital series. In addition to laudable ratings achievements throughout his busy career, Rahman’s body of work and breadth of experience have always been his calling card within the fast-evolving world of media and content creation.

Weaving through the landscape of formats and media companies as a free-spirited media professional is not as easy as it looks on paper, but Rahman has done that and then some throughout his storied career. Currently, Rahman serves as Creative Director for PopStar Media Inc, whose credits include the short films Tastes Like Medicine and Shades of Brooklyn Vol.1 as well as the TV One Special, Top R&B Divas of All-Time.

1 of 12 children born & raised in Paterson New Jersey, Rahman holds a BA from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications and often speaks to and mentors students there and throughout the New York Metro area. A community-oriented human, Rahman also mentors youth in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn where he resides and serves on the board of directors for Nomadic Explorers - a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization that teaches low-income kids the importance of travel through mentorship and travel experiences.

    Washington Heights (2013)
Television (Reality-TV) Producer Follows a group of best friends living, working and playing in the gritty, diverse New York neighborhood of Washington Heights. Though fiercely proud of where they come from, the show charts the triumphs and pitfalls as the cast struggle to push past the confines of their upbringing in order to carve out bright futures for themselves. Despite the obstacles that threaten to stand in the way of their respective pursuits (professional baseball, hip hop artist, spoken-word poet), they always have each others backs. The Heights is a celebration of friendship, neighborhood pride, and making your way in life while having a good time along the way. Written by MTV

Film (Short) Producer Volume 1 examines the theme of sexuality and our youth. Our story begins with Temporary Insanity, in which two working-class subway commuters find themselves disturbed by the rambunctious and intrusive banter of a group of high school boys coming home from basketball practice. The boys become concerned when they realize that one of their members, Lashaun, is distant and withdrawn. Finally, as Lashaun is beginning to confide in his friends that he is questioning his own contradictory behavior, the two older commuters begin to find themselves interested in Lashaun's relatable story. Karma finds Gus, a 40-something-year-old homeowner, taking a break from doing some home repair, when he is interrupted by his dramatic neighbor, Lonny, who is seeking advice. Lonny, a 30-something-year-old father, begins to retell a conversation with his 6-year-old daughter where she asks him about sex. Lonny, clearly wanting to avoid the subject, neglects to give his daughter straight forward answers, and ... Written by Daoud Abeid & Dahkil Hausif
