The Stage 32 Videos: Dfordisgruntled

ABOUT THE MUSIC This was a collaboration project with another composer D4Disgruntled befriended for some time on Instagram. The other composer, Somnus Music, was based in Pennsylvania and supplied a track that opened with dark atmospheric effects before segueing into a long repeating pedal tone bass line on glittery synth ethereal bells before then ending with the atmospheric opening. It was definitely a somber cue. D4Disgruntled created a whole new musical world on top of this track. He imagined a strange mystical Ceremony occurring deep in a mystical forest. It was complete with an opening and closing procession to an from the Ceremonial site where the Ceremony also commenced. Beginning with a low hollow bell ringing like a church bell to announce the procession is coming. There are strange growly and crickety sounds heard to add more ambiance as though we are hearing the creatures of the forest.These sounds eventually grow to howls later on. Then a series of soft chord blasts from an organ are heard and keep increasing in volume as the procession grows closer. There are tribal drums and other percussion instruments performed. Then thumping on muffled drums enter. The quickly segues into the somber ceremony. Additional bells and echoy synths play as the tribal drums enter again and increase with intensity. A brief moment of hollow echos is heard with a swirling line of muffled synths and dissonant organ chords lead to a reprise of the ceremony music. ABOUT THE MUSIC This is from my album "Sykosis" which is a mesh of percussive rhythms and a variety of dissonant, ambient sounds and synths to create a unique soundscape that might be considered more sound design than musical. This music tells the part of the story where an infected AI unit has come back to the manufacturing lab for "Diagnostic Testing" due to serious debilitating malfunctions. During the testing, a piece of Malware is found and is discovered to be very dangerous. It detects the lab techs trying to remove it and essentially activates an system bomb inside the AI unit. They back off and the Malware disables the bomb. ABOUT THE VIDEO The music is set to an explosion and ongoing morphing of color, textures, flashes, flickers, dissolves, fades, etc. which is why there is an Epilepsy warning at the beginning of the video. It is a surreal and abstract visual journey inspired by the music as though we are experiencing the diagnostic testing from the A.I.'s perspective. ABOUT THIS VIDEO Dipping my toes into more traditional action music in hopes to demonstrate I CAN compose in a more traditional fashion. Also, this was composed in 5/4 time signature, just to make things even more complex. This is a pseudo-western standoff style music without a lot of the hallmark instruments. I guess it could be for any action movie standoff scene but my inspiration was visualizing a western gun fight in the heart of the town. It is mostly percussion and synth element driven with traditional horns, timpani, cymbals, gongs and snares layered in for the big moments. ABOUT THE MUSIC In 2018, The Creative Cortex's owner created a short "spoof" video of his adventures at a Target on Thanksgiving Evening when it opened in the evening for early Black Friday deals. He filmed the adventure of the store and all the idiots who actually showed up to buy stuff for Christmas. He was there to buy much needed house supplies. After editing the video, D4Disgruntled composed music for it. It is a odd piece similar to 1970s funk. With a heavy bass line, brass section chord blasts supporting a twisted version of Carol of Bells on echoy and glittery synth bells. ABOUT THE MUSIC #shorts Originally, I was commissioned to compose a short intro cue for a YouTube docu-series about the 1960s Batman series and memorabilia. I created 2 demos, this being the first. It was done in the style of the original 1960s batman from an "instrumentation" perspective. I used a similar sounding ensemble of instruments such as the electric bass guitar, hand drums, an organ and strings. While it does use similar brass bursts as in the original theme, everything compositionally is different. There is also no singing. I was not entirely happy with how it was used in the opening credits as only a small portion of this 20 second cue was used and merged with an entirely different cue. So I decided to create a short animation that better showcased the music and showed off some of my artistic and animation skills. I teamed up with The Creative Cortex again to create this short animation. I created the artwork and storyboarded it out for TCC from which to base the limited animation / Motion Comics. I started with sketches and finalized everything with multiple Photoshop layered files. After Effects was used for the animation. This Motion Comic Animated Short is a deliberate (and slightly morbid) spoof of the 1960s Batman (as a concept). ABOUT THE MUSIC D4Disgruntled was commissioned by Ivotres Littles, creator and host of a new YouTube movie review series called “Horror Movies & Beyond”. While reviewing a movie, she delved into the historical aspects of genre filmmaking, how it evolved over time and how it relates to the film she is reviewing. D4Disgruntled chose to go with an old-school silent film era horror sound with a slight campiness to it. He composed an original theme for the opening titles and several additional cues that could be used under Chapter Title Cards for her longer videos that were divided into chapters. All the music is presented here for FREE. ABOUT THIS VIDEO Here is my entry. Unfortunately, my submission did not make it to the finalists. I am still happy with what I came up with. I open the piece with a spooky modern sound design approach but transition it into an the old school style of music. It gets loud and bombastic with intense brass, drums, cymbal crashes and chorus. I can only describe it as a mix of Chris Young's Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 music and the bombastic battle horn sounds from the opening sequence in Bram Stoker's Dracula. ABOUT THE CONTEST Best Services had already launched a new VST (Virtual Instruments) Package called "The Orchestra". The product trailer was provided in which to compose a track to for the contest. The artistic direction was left open to individual composer tastes and approaches.
