The Stage 32 Videos: D4dthecomposer

After completing the very daunting "The Erehwon" concept soundtrack album" project, D4D is returning to his regularly scheduled program of "re-scoring:" horror- films that he liked or had some kind of impact on him in his youth. The film of choice for this project is "Pumpkinhead". I am not trying to profit off Pumpkinhead or its success or following. I simply am using the film as a road map to follow around which to structure my new score. I am treating this as though I had been hired to "re-score" the picture. He saw this movie when it came outout on hoe video after its theatrical release and the imagery and atmosphere of the film stuck with him. Never a fan of the music that is in the movie currently, he chose to create one that felt more befitting. He explores a more primal sound for Pumpkinhead through lots of drums and varied metallic percussion as well as crickety and echoy manipulated percussion instruments and synth ambient sounds such as screaching birdds and howls. Also, there is minimal use of string sections and brass sections and when used, they are featured doing various effects and not so much creating a melodiy or motif. It is to sound aggressive and menacing like Pumpkinhead himself. The music will clash with anything that is melodic and heartfelt as this is an ancient mythical creature created through witchcraft set loose in a modern world.

ABOUT THE MUSIC This is from my album "Sykosis" which is a mesh of percussive rhythms and a variety of dissonant, ambient sounds and synths to create a unique soundscape that might be considered more sound design than musical. This music tells the part of the story where an infected AI unit has come back to the manufacturing lab for "Diagnostic Testing" due to serious debilitating malfunctions. During the testing, a piece of Malware is found and is discovered to be very dangerous. It detects the lab techs trying to remove it and essentially activates an system bomb inside the AI unit. They back off and the Malware disables the bomb. ABOUT THE VIDEO The music is set to an explosion and ongoing morphing of color, textures, flashes, flickers, dissolves, fades, etc. which is why there is an Epilepsy warning at the beginning of the video. It is a surreal and abstract visual journey inspired by the music as though we are experiencing the diagnostic testing from the A.I.'s perspective. The video was composed to the music when normally it is the other way around. Thanks to The Creative Cortex for helping to create and execute this video under my direction. ABOUT THIS VIDEO Dipping my toes into more traditional action music in hopes to demonstrate I CAN compose in a more traditional fashion. Also, this was composed in 5/4 time signature, just to make things even more complex. This is a pseudo-western standoff style music without a lot of the hallmark instruments. I guess it could be for any action movie standoff scene but my inspiration was visualizing a western gun fight in the heart of the town. It is mostly percussion and synth element driven with traditional horns, timpani, cymbals, gongs and snares layered in for the big moments. ABOUT THE MUSIC D4Disgruntled was commissioned by Ivotres Littles, creator and host of a new YouTube movie review series called “Horror Movies & Beyond”. While reviewing a movie, she delved into the historical aspects of genre filmmaking, how it evolved over time and how it relates to the film she is reviewing. D4Disgruntled chose to go with an old-school silent film era horror sound with a slight campiness to it. He composed an original theme for the opening titles and several additional cues that could be used under Chapter Title Cards for her longer videos that were divided into chapters. All the music is presented here for FREE.
