Heard Guillermo del Toro in a clip today say that "The cheapest thing anyone can afford is preparation."
I think that's true across the board, no matter what your profession. This, and also being in the beginning of the year mode, made me conscious of my planning and preparation process, in general.
As a recovering Covey 7 Habits facilitator lol, planning weekly is still my most effective timeframe. Covey used to say that shorter than that leaves us open to 'surprises' that can increase stress, while anything longer may invite procrastination which, in turn, invites anxiety.
So, for me, the Sunday night 30min session laying out the already committed appointments, the 'big rocks,' and the buffer time has been better for me than anything else I tried out.
The last several months have been SO busy that I eliminated the buffer time and, a few too many times, I even skipped the Sunday planning. Had no time for planning! I said... Too busy! - First thing that got sacrificed, as a result, was my writing time - and neither did it translate into faster progress on any of my projects. Just a bit more tired, and a little less effective daily :(
As Covey once quipped: "Have you ever been too busy driving to stop for gas?"
How about everyone else? What's your planning process and timeframe and how do you build in forward drive on those things that mean the most?
