Action/thriller contest closed - who submitted?

Hey Friends, the Action/Thriller Contest closed at midnight last night! Good luck to all who submitted and would love to hear what script you decided to enter!

Sam M Smith

Just submitted CHiMERA, my top-performing screenplay. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed going on that adventure with my characters :)

For anyone interested, here’s the logline:

In near future Hawaii, a bestially enhanced ex-soldier cop must face her monstrous past as her old squad is targeted by a killer.

It’s available to read on the logline page of my profile:

Branden Scruggs

I submitted the script Hunters!

The logline is as follows:

After a string of variously grim murders, and her father, a precocious, comic book obsessed teenager, and her cold hearted, neo-human, bounty hunting idol, must team up against the destructive forces of a neo-human revolutionary group to prevent a species wide genocide

It started as an action drama pilot 10 years ago that I even wrote a full 13 episodes for, and after some feedback and recalibrating, I decided to strip it back and reform it into a twisted dark superhero feature, very John Wick meets Batman and Robin, and I love what it turned into, and all the content I had to cut out or plans I had can just be sequels, TV--> series, etc. I hope whoever reads it enjoys!

Bruno Costa

Hi everyone, I submitted "Death Mask: The Fate of the Half-Dead Man". It's an adaptation of my own novel. A dark, visceral, supernatural thriller that brings a different kind of hero that we're not used to seeing. Most heroes save people in danger, but this hero also needs to be saved, or at least his soul...

The logline goes like this:

When a mysterious masked man finally finds some leads to find the corporate mob boss who killed his beloved ones, he’ll borrow supernatural abilities from demonic forces that will allow him to combat the enemy’s criminal network at the cost of losing his humanity and the chance of ever finding love again.

Mark Allen

Hey, everyone! I submitted a martial arts action thriller called, ADVENT.

LOGLINE: A reclusive Special Forces operative is lured out of retirement for one last mission -- to rescue the teenaged daughter he does not even know.

SYNOPSIS:

The evil, charismatic BRYAN DOLAN leads his radical neo-nazi group to raid the home of U.S. SENATOR RACHAEL WELCH, kill her bodyguards, then kidnap ALISHA, Rachael's daughter from her first marriage, a girl of biracial heritage.

Worried the FBI might bungle the case, Rachael and her husband, European industrialist MICHAEL WELCH, seek out Alisha's father, ALAN CLARK. Alan is a strong, proud, but bitter black man, a retired SPEC OPS operative who now lives alone in a cabin in the woods, writing action adventure novels for a living. Initially against the idea of getting involved, Alan realizes he cannot stand by and NOT help his little girl.

Once back in the game, Alan goes "all in" and plunges deep into the seedy underbelly of the city - strip joints, biker bars, gun runners, and skinheads. Alan call in favors from old friends when he can, and utilizes his prodigious weaponry and marital arts skills along the way, following the trail wherever it leads him.

No one is spared his wrath.

The final reveal comes when Alan tracks down and rescues his daughter. In a climactic battle to the death with Dolan, Alan learns the terrible truth - Dolan and his group simply were hired hands, expendable pawns in a much larger conspiracy. The real mastermind is someone dangerously close to Alisha, and the last person Alan would have suspected.

ADVENT works on multiple levels. It is a thrilling action adventure with a modern racial undertone we see currently in our society in the age of Trump and the rise of certain far-right groups. It is a martial arts movie (of which precious few get made nowadays) with lots of opportunity for some truly unique fight sequences and action set pieces.

But most importantly, it is a story about a father who will stop at nothing for the sake of his daughter’s life.

Don Stroud

Hello everyone! I submitted an urban action script called "Euthanized".

LOGLINE:

A grieving animal control officer becomes an unlikely social media hero when she embarks on a vigilante crusade against animal abusers, but her violent actions trap her between friends on the police force and the leader of a citywide dogfighting ring.

SYNOPSIS:

Officer Mireya Vasquez left a promising career in the Violent Crimes division to join the Animal Patrol Unit, honoring her late son's memory by safeguarding the pets and other animals that he cherished. But the countless atrocities she experiences anger Vasquez to the point where she can no longer obey the rules.

Utilizing cutting-edge weaponry supplied by her veteran uncle, she embarks on a one-woman vigilante war against people who mistreat animals, leaving their corpses with “pet shaming” signs that match their inhuman crimes. Vasquez's actions make their way onto social media, where animal lovers dub her “the Euthanizer”.

Yet even as she begins to believe her own digital press, Vasquez's crusade brings her into conflict with an aggressive businesswoman who wants to create an empire founded on the savagery of dog fighting.

With her old partner's investigation closing in on her, and the city's underworld gunning for her, can Vasquez stay true to her mission and outlive the criminals she seeks to eradicate?

"Euthanized" features two female POC as main characters. It looks at how social media creates heroes and villains. And it features vengeance for all the abused animals who have no voice. Oh, and there are lots of guns and blood. It rocks!

Hi all! I’m really excited to be part of this cool contest. I’ve submitted the action/thriller Doomer.

Logline: After a domestic terrorist takes hostages on a freeway, a mysterious man of action helps the President of the United States thwart the terrorist’s

plan to overthrow the government.

Can’t wait to congratulate the winner!

Mackenzie Kyle

Hi All! I submitted 'Exit Strategy'.

Logline:

An ambitious young executive’s fall in a massive corporate scandal plunges him into the world of organized crime.

Synopsis:

Marcus Cairns is a rising young corporate star. He is promoted quickly within his organization only to discover something is seriously wrong. He is convinced by senior management to engage in desperate acts to save the company but when the illicit activities become public it is Marcus who takes the fall goes to jail.

To survive in prison, Marcus forges an unlikely alliance with a jailed Russian crime lord, his business skills quickly becoming a valuable asset for his criminal employer. Escaping with his new boss in a prison break, he attempts to settle into the business side of the underworld organization, struggling with the discovery that his integrity seems to have more value on the wrong side of the law.

But when a gang war erupts and the FBI close in Marcus must put into play his final exit strategy.

A mix of “Fun With Dick and Jane”, and “The Departed”, Exit Strategy is a fast-paced thriller with a comedic edge.

I did, David Abrookin!

Hello all; from Virginia Beach

Most of my work is action/sci-fi (grounded and not so grounded) with strong female leads (Pssst - to all the guys out there, it's true: we're not as good at solving problems as we think we are :-).

I entered Gemini World, an action/sci-fi: A reclusive captain recalled from retirement struggles with her waning faith in humanity to save her ship and the 2500 innocent lives it carries from enemy hijackers in order to make an impossible landing on a new world far, far away. Even in space, our own worst enemy can be ourselves.

Good luck all, and Write On!

Hey everybody!

I entered my big, dumb, action movie FIGHTANIC (I say 'big' and 'dumb' to flatter myself. These are the movies I grew up loving!)

Think of it as BLOODSPORT on a stolen cruise ship with some MIDNIGHT RUN sprinkled in for seasoning. You get thrills, some chuckles, a couple weird ass characters and, God willing, a good good night at the movie theater.

It was two years of hard work and its starting to place in some contests. So, here's to keeping the ball rolling. Good luck to us all!

Kathryn Carmichael

Hi everyone from the UK, excited to have entered my action/thriller DIVISION9 and great to read everyone else's entries, such incredible stories out there!

LOGLINE:

A female battle-scarred Mi6 agent is forced to work with a team of unlikely heroes while protecting London from a ruthless businessman hell-bent on revenge, and a rogue agent working to orchestrate a chemical attack on London.

It's taken a lot of love and work to get to this place but with coverage from Industrial Scripts giving it a 'Consider' and comparing it to Bourne, Salt and Mission Impossible with a worldwide franchise potential I'm very excited to take this female-driven script forward into production.

Ken Lewin

Hello from Albuquerque, New Mexico. My submission is FELONY ROAD

LOGLINE:

A bank robber’s teenaged son learns his Dad isn't the "Robin Hood" he's been taught to believe after he helps with a heist gone awry and must decide between family loyalty and protecting the hostages they take during a massive manhunt.

Hopefully it has a tone/feel like BABY DRIVER and HELL OR HIGH WATER.

Robin Gregory

Lotsa super, original stories here. It's gonna be tough to chose a winner. Good luck, everyone!

Matthew Kelcourse

I received an inspirational note from Zero Gravity after they read Gemini World (entered in this 32 comp)- 'engaging and strong writing: just not what they're looking for right now'. The most awesome pass in the short time I've been writing; even shorter time pitching :-)

Elise Marenson

I submitted THE PURPLE PHOENIX. It is the story of an ordinary guy who must perform heroic acts to rescue the woman he loves from a cult that kidnapped her. Their enemy is the phony cult leader, a false prophet who fleeces innocent folks, keeping them captive in the Adirondack mountains with a paramilitary force, while he and his lady live in luxury in New York City. THE PURPLE PHOENIX is meant to be entertainment without being politically heavy handed and preachy. But it is an allegory for the current political climate in America.

Hello Stage 32 community.

I entered METAL MONEY MAYHEM into the Action/Thriller screenplay competition.

LOGLINE:

A scrappy family stumbles into nouveau wealth when two brothers discover a trove of hidden cash, but after a menacing threat surfaces, they must urgently navigate this newfound family secret.

This project was initially conceived as a half-hour dramedy, then a feature film, and finally as a one-hour drama. After developing, writing, and work-shopping the material, in various iterations over a handful of years, I decided to focus on the feature length screenplay.

If you're here you've written a script -- a victorious achievement in and of itself. Congrats all! Write on!

Noah Stephenson

First thing’s first; I wanna wish congratulations to each and every one of you fellow writers in this cohort, for writing and submitting your scripts! We friggin’ DID IT, Y’ALL! This is a big deal!

As for me, the script that I submitted here is a supernatural heist dramedy that I titled “STEAL ME!”

The elevator pitch for this one that I’ve been having fun with is “What if “Oceans 11” and “Indiana Jones” had a narrative baby and then baptized their creation with a splash of post-humanist thematic holy water from the creepiest Pagan drinking-well you’ve ever seen, and then dressed it in the stylistic clothing of a “Three Stooges” sketch?”

A desperate band of infighting bank-robbers stumbles upon an ancient relic who’s powers they discover might be able to lend them a much-needed hand during their final heist together. But when the aforementioned tool suddenly starts acting with a mind of its own in the middle of the job — all hell breaks loose. As the team flees to their safe-house in the remote wilderness, the mischievous relic decides to gift to each of them some rather inconvenient superpowers with which to fight against the cops that tail them. But with those abilities comes a mischievous bonus, too: maybe the powers aren’t just for defense. If power can be used to destroy, what if it can also be used to mend? And what needs mending more in this handful of bickering bozos than their bonds with EACH OTHER?

Wayne Johnson

Hi to All. The screenplay I've submitted is BEDLAM ON THE RAILS, a true crime story adapted from the book "Bedlam on the West Virginia Rails" by Wilson Casey, detailing the last moving train robbery in America in 1949. The manhunt for the perps covered three states and involved hundreds of officers, finally ending in our nation's capitol.

The logline:

Two armed, down-on-their-luck young hoods, a speeding streamliner, and a bad idea result in railway pandemonium not seen since the days of Butch Cassidy.

Good luck to everyone who entered!
