Effective anti-scam tip

When those producers impersonating a real one, by having stolen their profile pic and blurb off IMDB, hit you up here, just tell them to connect with you on LinkedIn. Works a charm to weed out the scammers.

Great tip! Also report any scammers you find to Stage 32 and they'll delete these bad actor accounts

Christiane Lange

Pat Alexander I usually do, but you can't always be sure who is who and what they are up to. This is a simple test.

Jim Boston

Christiane, thanks so very much for the tip!

Hi Christiane - where is this happening? If you find that it is happening on Stage 32 please report it to us immediately at success@stage32.com or writerhelp@stage32.com - we'll drop the hammer on em!

Yes, had a scammer here on Stage 32. Signs: Terrible spelling and grammar, cannot back up facts, cannot remember details. They are terrified of questions for detail or having to meet via Skype to prove themselves. Stage 32 was very responsive with the FAKE celebrity that reached out to me. I was dubious but happen to always give people the benefit of the doubt... but never my credit details! Thanks Stage 32! Nice job!

Christiane Lange

Jason Mirch It happens quite a bit and I have reported several in the past. Thing is, a lot of the time, you can't be 100% sure they are fake on the face of it.

One category is the usual scammers, i.e. military widowers yadda-yadda. Those are easy to spot and steer clear of.

The other category is scammers who impersonate an existing, real producer, but usually a small-time one. It is theoretically possible that someone like that would be on Stage32. If you communicate with them, they invariably offer to flog your material for a fee, typically around $3000.

Hi Christiane Lange - I've reported a couple making a network request ~ "Hi. I like what I see and I am interested in working with you to get your project made". I have no work posted on S32, so I know they're scamming; even when they are either on IMDb or have hijacked an ID from IMDb. Just be smart - too good to be true usually is and if you or your rep didn't initiate contact, look into it carefully.

I agree Christiane Lange! I myself have had a few network requests, however approached at a business level that were fraudsters and was one of procedures did to clarify the individuals. Worked well!

Unfortunately, I must agree. One scammer contacted me. She pretended to be a film professor in Germany, even though she gave an address in USA. I contacted the real professor, who quickly answered. The scammers profile was removed after I contacted the staff here. Strangely, the scammer again became a member, again pretending to be the same professor. Another person told staff, and told the real professor. That was so odd that I told the real professor that it the scammer possibly is mentally ill.

Thanks everyone! Again, make sure to send their profile links my way at success@stage32.com and I will look.
