Getting Cracked Open

Happy Monday, all!

I know that to be an artist often means to showcase your own vulnerability, & that sometimes we need a little help in getting there. Correspondingly, I find that I often try to do things and put myself in situations that intimidate me, & make a point to see them through. (Note: this is v v v different from, like, situations that put me at ACTual risk.) But that intimidation-thing forces me to face a fear or a reluctance head on and in the doing of that, I knock a wall down & crack myself open. And then (bonus!) I feel super brave :)

So, I'm curious: when was the last time that you went out of your way to do something that intimidates you?

Annelies Morlion

I posted my first longline in the lounge last week asking for comments and thoughts. That was scary. But now I know exactly what needs work. Not doing something I want or dream of scares me more than the fear I have doing it. Does that make sense?

Rebecca James

Today. Yeah!

Dan Guardino

Nothing intimidates me, so I would have to say never.

Maurice Vaughan

Sending in my first pitch to a Stage 32 Pitch Session (last Nov.).

Maurice Vaughan

Sometimes rewriting is intimidating.

Scott Richards

Every time I get set to start a new first draft. Especially if it's in a genre newish to me.

Craig D Griffiths

I decided a few years ago to be super honest about myself to others. Once I had externalised myself honestly it was easier to access the emotions behind it all.

Ingrid Wren

Pitching to managers and producers via Zoom!

J R O'Hara

I'm doing it now. Every time I venture into the world of Stage 32 I feel intimidated, not good enough...which is ridiculous because this community has been very supportive. Mediation helps me through the jitters.

Angela Cristantello

Wow wow wow, thank you for sharing everyone! I'm genuinely so inspired by the openness in this thread.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Angela Cristantello. These were great responses.
