It's not a movie, and it's by no means a perfect series or final season, but the final scene in the final season of Star Wars Clone Wars, which I saw for the first time last night, was absolutely phenomenal. Really that whole episode was amazing in its own right, while in my opinion not being a great conclusion to the show. But the final scene specifically was nothing short of amazing. It was emotional, beautiful, poetic, and not a single word was spoken. Truly moved me as a long time Star Wars fan.
Bridges of Madison County: that hand on the car door handle, moving to open it and then deciding against it. La Vita e Bela (Life is beautiful): The kid shouting "Mama!" and telling her they won. And more recently, The Power of the Dog. Anything that makes my jaw drop, makes me want to shout at the screen or stirs deep emotions in me.
Fight Club - The main protagonist is acknowledged as one tough mofo after defeating his seemingly tougher antagonist, chops off the head of capitalism to start a new world while holding hands with the love of this life, and still maintains its dark dead pan humour right to the end. Chef's kiss.
Shawshank Redemption was the first movie that came to mind for me. The final scenes of "Terminator" and "Defending Your Life" are definitely in my top ten.
So, Shawshank is my second favorite movie of all time and that ending is, indeed, JUST perfect. Also, Dustin Quinteros , I will never get over either one of those movies and was so floored by both of them (Whiplash deeply deeply unsettled me in the best of ways, and Sound of Metal WRECKED me).
Angela Cristantello , yes! Whiplash just had me because it was so well, written, directed, and that edit. Sound of Metal for different reason, I found Ruben's in-ability to sit still, and just be with himself, very relatable so when he was finally able to do that... as you said WRECKED! @Sabrina, I still quote the Shawshank ending to this day, "For the second time in my life, I am guilty of committing a crime.". It's back on Netflix, FYI.
If you're requiring absolute perfection, it's the film ' Malena '
RENATO AMOROSO - I pedaled as fast as I could... as if I were escaping from longing, from innocence, from her. Time has passed, and I have loved many women. And as they've held me close... and asked if I will remember them I've said, "Yes, I will remember you." But the only one I've never forgotten is the one who never asked...
Both endings of Pixar's Ratatouille and Up immediately come to mind. Both have a beautiful wrap up that allow you to leave the world of the film with a smile on your face.
Okay, the very best, Billy Elliot, The dramatic final scene of Billy Elliott, as a grown man, dancing the lead in Swan Lake as his father is emotionally overwhelmed. Tears, tears & more tears, what a movie ! Musical alchemy with T - Rex & Marc Bolan ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=989pUycUqAg
I agree with others above about Shawshank Redemption and a few others. EG Ice Cold In Alex made in Vintage era or more recently Django Unchained. The thing about final scenes is they need to (at best) bring a climax in an inevitable yet surprising way. For some audiences The Sixth Sense swung it “He was the ghost all along” but I kinda felt that coming.
Another one I like is Saints and Soldiers which was a low budget but very enjoyable ww2 film based on true events. The final scene is when a sympathetic nazi soldier (who helped an American unit trapped behind enemy lines) is captured and walked off by US troops. He turns and sees the antagonist US medic soldier he helped (who was a man full of hatred towards Germans). They give each other this knowing look of gratitude and thanks. The US medic then opens his medical bag and begins treating German POWs.
@Bill Yes E.T was perfect end scene on different levels. Reminded of stakes “Alien has to get home now or…” then obstacles and hurdles with antagonists followed by fantastic kids sky bike ride escaping from police/adults. Then the revelation to parents and the final bonding with ET and main protagonist before spaceship makes line in sky. Awesome!
As the theater clears, we remain glued to our seats waiting for the finale. So many times, the scene either ties it all together or is the defining moment that says SEQUEL.
The film, I Am Sam . Had a perfect ending. Sam's daughter scores a soccer goal. Sam is so excited he picks up his daughter Lucy then runs in a circle while carrying his daughter while the Beatles song (Two Of Us) was playing while many kids followed behind. Primo!
I think of the '57 version of Invasion of The Body Snatchers. Is he crazy or did it really happen? Back then, that kind of scene wasn't really as prevalent as it is today!

I actually thought you were asking when I come up with a perfect ending.

I'll pick two, both drumming movies (coincidently), Whiplash and The Sound of Metal. Jaw dropping....

Dustin Quinteros Both of those movies are so good. Whiplash hooked me more than The Sound of Metal, but they're both perfection.

The Silence of the Lambs - 'I'm having an old friend for dinner'. The Prestige, Raiders of the Lost Ark - that warehouse scene is pretty memorable.
