Hello Stage32 friends!
Just wanted to share some news (and maybe some encouragement) to all the newbie filmmakers here. I'm in the midst of making my first short film, "The Fat Lady - She Just Wanted to Be Called by Her Name"! After 10 years of writing this story, and overcoming breast cancer after the first year of production, we are now 60% filmed with just 3 more days to go.
It's a mix of excitement, fear, and happiness. Although it's a short film, it's a 25-minute project featuring over 9 locations, 6 to 15 actors, and myself as the writer, producer, and director – and soon actress, lol. I'm not making a penny (quite the contrary), but I'm loving every second of it.
If you'd like to learn more about the film or know someone who would love to donate, we have been granted a fiscal agency sponsorship. Check out our dedicated website for more information: www.thefatladyfilm.com
Stay creative and keep pushing forward!

Congratulations Rita Avellar on your short film coming to fruition. I'm sure you've got an amazing story of trial and triumph that I hope you'll share. Surviving breast cancer, writing, producing, and direction, as well as acting is quite a feat.

How did you handle the prep for 9 locations? That's ambitious for a short film. Would love to hear tips from you!

Amanda Toney Crazy, right? It is a short film, but a 25-minute short film :) Most of the locations were local businesses which permitted us to film for free. It is a lot of community-based work. and a lot of talking on my end. But it is working!
