About Ben

New writer based in Manchester. Started in theatre, moving towards screen and film, and also currently finishing my first novel. Currently pitching ideas and getting to know more people in the industry.

My first screenplay, 'The Interview', has been optioned by a local production company, as well as a short, 'Only Love', that will be used to showcase talent and raise profiles and funding. I've attended a few scriptwriting workshops/ events and had some excellent feedback from industry professionals, particularly regarding my new screenplay 'Pleiades'.

Recently my play, 'The Beast Within' won a theatre showcase and is due for full production April 2015. Since 2012 I've had 4 of my plays produced.

The best work comes out of collaboration- so I'm always looking for new people to work with.

Unique traits: New ideas, fast turnaround

  • Guilty

Guilty Drama Edward wakes up one day to the news that a boy he was at school with has just been convicted of the sexual assault of young boys. Old forgotten friends quickly get in contact - the rumour mill suggests one of the victims was the son of another old school mate, who never moved away. The press quickly descend upon Edward, who has been named as being a 'friend' of the perp back in school. His old and new worlds collide as secrets and repressed memories from the past start to surface.

  • Fringed

Fringed Comedy Sean gets and then loses a job as a lawyer on the same day, so decides to follow his passion: he wants to be a writer. A random poster asking for new plays in a local pub inspires him to get involved in the Manchester fringe theatre scene. He is soon pulled into a mad world of psychotic actors and deranged directors. He makes a few good friends along the way and tries pursuing the lovely but unobtainable Lucy, who runs the arts pub. With the surprising success of his first play, and the help of a few well-seasoned actors, the dream of the Edinburgh fringe festival might be on the cards. But Sean will need to keep everyone happy and navigate the unfathomable politics of the fringe scene to keep this dream alive.
