Two of my fave crime films are: 'The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery' with Steve McQueen and 'Donnie Brasco.' I think both films show great psychological effects of what crime does to those who pursue it, and even though Joe Pistone was only playing the part of a wise guy you can see the effect it had on him and his family by being undercover. But Pistone said it in his biography that the wise guys really were from another planet (how I feel about the Nazi's) and they really are nothing but a bunch of parasites.

In my view, it's about change in spite of the notion that a good film must have great characters and story. Whether products, lifestyle or anything else change is going to happen, like it or not. That said, I think it better if all in the community embrace the change and do their utmost to engage the audience. Because at the end of the day, it's the audience we need as much as they need the storytellers. "..and that's all I'm going to say about that.." ~ Forrest Gump
So glad you mentioned the comments on that article, Jon. I quite enjoyed those as well. Healthy debate makes the world spin.

Expand commentThanks.. as the old saying goes, "opinions are like a**holes.. everyone's got one". I WILL say for the record that the evolution of good story to BIG production has jaded the public much as the focus on super hero, sci-fi and crime in all its forms. For that reason the importance of story can never diminish. Like novels which number in the billions, the best immerse us into the world depicted while the characters indulge our own lives which will either attract or repel the reader.. Same holds true for visual media.

Just come along with us as we try to find a good movie on our ROKU/NETFLIX streaming do-dad. Scroll up, scroll down, scroll left, scroll right, and like a hoarder's house, you really do have to wade through a lot of rubbish to find anything good. One we did find that I liked (and my girlfriend didn't care for) was 'THE COBBLER' with Adam Sandler. I do like Sandler in serious roles (Reign Over Me, Punch Drunk Love) and I thought this movie was pretty clever. I wish he would do more serious films and get away from the dumb crap. Movies should be good you know. :^)

Birdy. Older Nic Cage / Matt Modine film. I’m assuming if you read the book it is based on, the ending wouldn’t be surprising, but it knocked me for a loop.
