Leaving FCP

Any insight on migrating to Adobe after years of FCP editing? Ready to make the jump... How did it go for you?

Simon © Simon

NUKE is trick but costs $$$ Like RED GIANT fx... Necessity the Mother of all ingenuity/inventions. Check out Blender 2.72 Free- even a standalone you can run of a jump drive.

Brian Gerson

I've made the switch recently, and it was a very smooth and pleasant transition. They both operate almost the exact same as each other, outside of different short hands. But Premiere seem s to process playback smoother, and render faster, than FCP.

Georgia Hilton

switched to adobe / nuke and C4D recently... so happy I switched from FCP 7... the only other option was to go back to AVID. ( I started editing on AVID...)

A 2nd point I want to add to this discussion, is how hard are women working to make women succeed? I see no forums on the internet dedicated to purely women upliftment.. Certainly not on Stage 32.. The grapevine is useful for many reasons, makes grapes, wine, vinegar, and it is a metaphor for networ...

I would be more than happy to have more women on our production team but they seem to gravitate towards acting roles the most. I haven't found much serious interest. But this my own small limited experience from a micro budget production.

Taunya Gren

Then you're looking in the wrong places, Michael. I know a lot of women who are experienced, talented and looking for positions in DP, director, producer and editor. Perhaps you need to put it out there more.

Michael Neal

I have had no problem finding talented people so I have been been reaching out enough. Our lead acting role is female so I am surprised there is not more female interest on the production side. I am n...

OK, if you are serious about what you spoke about Micheal, then consider me as a video editor, 12 years experience , I have my own kit..I can work both in production and post production.

That is what I have been trying to say for months, someone has to see the quality of my work and say, despite the lack of SKILLS, this person has pure raw talent worthy of time and investment, there is nothing better than to tell someone you are doing a great job, and I see that if I take the time a...

The only way the game ends is when you decide to take yourself off of the field. Until then, continue to play ball as if the game-winning shot is in your hands.

Skill or talent are they the same thing???

I ask this question as it seems to me that many people here confuse the 2, and they are not the same thing, you have a talent for something, that is built into your DNA, and you have a skill at something, skills are taught, talent is not.... I have a talent for editing, that is not something I was t...

Pinwheel of Doom

I've been working on Final Cut Pro for a while now and recently upgraded to Final Cut Pro X (10.1.3) at first it seemed fine but now I get pin wheeled for the first three to four minutes of opening the program. Then when I try a playback just to make sure it meshes it takes two or three times to pla...

Mike Sorrinni

Alle, I got stuck with having to upgrade to X because FCP stopped being able to export. I wish they hadn't done away with the Final Cut Studio, or at least bothered to listen to folks.

Justine-Paula Robilliard

It makes logical sense that when Final Cut Studio 2 and it's upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3, from FCP 6 to 7, a minor upgrade of codecs and prorez, Apple was tempted to go down the route of another Fin...

I have a suggestion: How we helped an older member of the post-production community find her feet..

Why not try and help instead of how can I say this without offending, making "useful" suggestions that really are not all that applicable or helpful. I do not appreciate your condescending sarcasm, Justine. I am no longer interested in helping.

I did not mean it that way, I was trying to lighten the situation, I battle with aspects of language, granted it was not the best attempt. I am so sorry, I never intended to offend or belittle. I have Aspergers, or similar, and nuance of language I fail badly at. Justine

Does this sort of thing annoy anyone else?

I keep seeing postings like this on Craigslist (I know, it's Craigslist, but even so): http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cwg/4445532399.html Essentially, they need someone to chop a couple of short videos together, and they need it done in a couple of days, and they need someone who's really a PRO (...

Do actors befriend you?

While reading Final Cut Pro X: Advanced Editing these two sentences stood out to me as a big ol 'what the truck?' aka o.O moment... "Make no mistake: It's the editor who chooses how an actor's performance plays in each scene. This is why smart actors befriend the editor on their films." As an actor...
