I am a Canadian producer currently based out of Toronto. I bring with me some of the best crew in the world. I'm currently working to get two feature films off the ground. Let's work together!
@Tye Any luck with crowdfunding just to get teh ball rolling?

Also, it runs like a wedding registry...SO: instead of asking for money, you can say "Hey fans, I need a Red camera and a couch & chairs for my living room set." Your contributors can purchase specific items for your film, and then they can't wait to see your film to see the couch they purchased! It's FANTASTIC. I'm dear friends with the CEO, but I'm also just a huge fan of the company and they are BLOWING up right now. I'm happy to email introduce you to get the ball rolling. Email me at filminterchange@gmail.com if you'd like an intro.
@Jenn Fantastic idea!
Hey Jenn, thank you so much for this! Looks amazing!
Not film related but....I can't help it-I'm too excited....My wife and I've prayed for some time now about a baby. ...found out today I'M GOING TO BE A DADDY!!

We all know success in this industry is the epitome of baby steps (especially if you've only done a few projects) but even the Bible says don't doubt small beginnings! In my area they cut the tax cred a few years ago so there's little going on here until something (legislatively) changes. But thanks to meeting good people here , a producer and I have been talking and they've proposed working together in the future. Granted, that isn't concrete but it does show that there's an interest in working together. Half full or half empty?...When you're thirsty half doesn't matter. The good Lord gave me the passion , He'll open a door! This is not a Hollywood success story no, but it is one step farther on the road toward a dream, which I see is a success.
What would your dream role be? ....I read today about a PREDATOR reboot by Shane Black. Huge fan for years. If I ever had the opportunity to speak with Shane Black , I'd beg to be a part of it, I'm ashamed to say. Even for peanuts lol. It would be a dream come true!
It would be a supporting role in James Bond. I have applied for one in Bond 24. Fingers crossed! But they will hardly hire someone from Norway i think for an supporting role for a film shooting in London. But i can allways hope! :-)
As embarrassing as this is, I've always wanted to play Britney Spears (mostly her younger years) in a movie/show.
I would love to do Steel Magnolias.
I’m proud to announce that I’ve joined the cast of director Matteo Borgomanero’s upcoming suspense/thriller film, “HORSEMEN”, as mild mannered Dr. Wentworth, whose isolated farmhouse is invaded by killers fleeing a robbery. Or maybe he’s not so mild mannered! Anyway, it’s a truly great script with lots of twists and turns.
nice!
Congrats!! Well done and enjoy!
Brilliant Alyn, have a great time.
Great job! Congrats
Congratulation! wish you well on the set, have fun!
Hi folks, Ok, so I debated on whether to even post this or bring it up and ask , out of fear of some seeing it as 'desperate' or 'ignorant'. ..however , I thought about my father who always said "Don't bluff your way through something for the sake of embarrassment. Expand postHi folks, Ok, so I debated on whether to even post this or bring it up and ask , out of fear of some seeing it as 'desperate' or 'ignorant'. ..however , I thought about my father who always said "Don't bluff your way through something for the sake of embarrassment. If you don't know something, ask. They will come more near respecting you for your honesty and for speaking your mind. Be genuine". So...here goes.. Not only am I relatively new to Canada , I am also relatively new to the acting industry. I started with live stage, had a hiatus for several years and after moving to Canada, got a small role on the History Channel's Military Channel Edge of War, which rekindled the fire. The unfortunate part of this is that as we were wrapping up Edge of War , they were cutting the tax credit , so now there is very little work in film , excluding the occasional commercial here and there. I've had pleasant discussions with other actors , both famous and local about this. Responses from both are similar "hmm, that's a tough one" , "take what you can get and hope more projects come back", "it will get better" etc... So my question I suppose is this - Should one start to look a little farther away for a role that interests them and hope for possible video auditions? (which would entail many other factors as well ; if you get a job,the cost/benefit ratio, expenses, etc.) or should one just continue as is, take whatever you can get and hope that something bigger/better comes along? Looking for a particular type of role in itself can be a challenge especially if there's not much work to begin with. Sam
Marco, well said.

Expand commentI like Marco's post. Another perspective is that you are the CEO of "SAM DOYLE". You need to develop a plan to get in front of the buyers who will need your product. If you "hope something better comes along" you'll be waiting a long time. Sure, you can't control whether you get cast, but you can position yourself as a business, and build relationships in a way that makes your product more attractive. If the fire is truly rekindled, then you should have plenty of fuel to get proactive with your career. If you find it's too much effort to be "worth it", then you should probably relegate it to a hobby and focus yourself elsewhere to make a living.

I have done a total of 12 films, one TV pilot, a national commercial, and a recurring role in a TV mini-series as well as several parts on the legitimate theater stage. Finally at the point where I can actually turn down roles that do not suit me. Will have recurring role in a new TV series in 2015 and I didn't do anything to get it. They just called me and offered me the part. Thank heavens for a little name recognition. No more "CATTLE CALLS".

Expand commentCongrats Mr.Corley. Most people think they always have the right answer. I just wanted diff opinions. In reality no one knows my situation no more than I know theirs. So they cannot honestly say "just do it","you're the only thing stopping yourself" an so on. My point was merely that right now there's no work going on here and some circumstances won't allow me to simply uproot my family and take off somewhere with absolutely NO guarantee of getting work anywhere else when I have a good career here (besides acting) ,until more film does get back here. That's why I wondered if a guy could do a vid aud farther out, maybe get a role that suits them, film and come back home. That's all.

Expand commentA wise move my friend. For over 2 years I rode rodeo and broke rough horses to make a living while I waited for something to happen, Finally got an agent because of a third rate indy that I had a short role in. Then another producer saw the short and it just kinda went from there. I am NOT a greedy person, I live in the mountains in a house (cabin) that I built myself and am 18 miles from the nearest town and a half mile from my nearest neighbor. I guess I got lucky ( I know it wasn't talent ot friends in the business). At any rate, me and my wife live very well on what most would consider a pittance (Less than $60,000 per year average) I raise my own vegatables and my own beef and pork and chicken. I am considered a success in films, by the industry, but I am much more of a success at just being happy and even putting meat on the table by hunting. I limit mysekf toi ONE film a year and this is the first time I will have to worl for eight weeks to shoot 13 episodes of this series.

Expand postSo here's a question I've been asking my actor friends. I'm a producer / director and I am making my own projects. I have some cachet and I complete projects and I write killer scripts. So I would like to pose this to the acting community: WHAT WOULD YOU GIVE UP FOR A STARRING ROLE IN AN INDEPENDENT FEATURE FILM? If I said I had a role that would be perfect for you, you star in the film, of the 100 pages you're in 85 of them and we are trying to fund it, can you come up with $15G? Would you do it? There would be 2 - 6 main characters tops (Think Breakfast Club). But basically you get the script and it could be a really juicy role - one that probably won't come along again. You of course would be helping fund the film and would also be a producer, and own part of the film. What would you be willing to do? What's the most you'd pay? Now, if you are inclined not to pay anything, that's OK too. This post isn't an accusation or a troll, so I'd appreciate if there wasn't any vitriol. M
I don't contribute to productions...I get paid SAG fees for being in them
Thank you Dan. A couple of times when I lived in Los Angeles I acted for free at the Globe Theatre and at the Callboard, but I certainly never paid for the privilege
Absolutely NOT.....

Expand commentWOW! Great Question! I am an actor, and I'm essentially doing that right now only I'm putting everything together to make it happen myself. I absolutely would put that amount, IF and only IF the qualify of the production was up to par. Distribution was substantial, the other actors were more credited than myself and everybody involved was one step higher or more established in their career than me. And there was some potential opportunity to make back my money on the backend. I think the only way to be come a starring actor in a film is to have been a starring actor in a film. Great post!!!! : )

Someone once told me "never pay to be in a film.Be hired for you." A director/producer can cast me for me.. but I won't beg.

Expand postGreetings! Hi folks. I'm new to the site so I'm still finding my way around. I'm an American transplant to Canada. I began acting in a couple of live stage plays back home in Kentucky in the 90's and realized 'Wow, this is awesome!". Fell in love with acting from the word go. But life happens and it was put on the back burner for some time, thinking 'small town, fear, other things, etc., acting ain't gonna' happen". I later got into law enforcement. After moving to Canada I got a small part on Edge of War, which restarted the fire! I realized how much I missed acting. I decided that after passing up a couple of other rare opportunities in life, I wasn't going to anymore. You can't catch fish until you cast. So I am here with my net - going to see what what's in the water! Sam.
Thanks. Still just starting though. Edge of War was a small part but still a start! Hopefully more projects in the near future! We shall see.
