I've recently been working with an independent producer/director on several festival shorts; also a full length film, currently in editing. I've been the lead in all of them. Somehow, based on my comments, I wound up rewriting 2 of the shorts scripts as well as the entire film script. This gave me the idea to write a script based on my 1st boxer novel. I entered it in one of Stage 32's contests and was a semi-finalist. I received great feedback and encouragement as to producers liking and filming it. Then I got writers block and apathy and did nothing. I guess this is a long-winded way of saying the November idea has got my juices running again, and I now intend to have a fully revised script by the end of November.
Hope I didn't bore anyone with this.
Jon
Nope. Wasn't bored. The journeys we take as Writers can often be as or more interesting than the works themselves.

Since joining, I've acted (ny real passion) in several festival shorts (one won several awards), wrote and starred in a full length film, shot a podcast episode, and also adapted an unpublished book I wrote to a screenplay and was a semifinalist in the Stage32 contest. I'd really like to hook up with some people who could help my acting career move forward (as it's been dead since Covid), and help me move my movie script forward. As always, great to be a part of the Stage 32 family.
Hi Jon! Congrats on your success in the stage 32 contest. That's awesome!
Hi Jon- Would you like to connect and do some projects with me- zoom reads and such- Thanks- Ed Skirtich
Hi Jon - congrats on the placing! That's a great accomplishment. I hope acting work picks up back for everyone soon as production starts to ramp up.
Just did my 1st acting job since Covid hit; a podcast called Roomates. Yea! The end of last year, rewrote the screenplay (got screenwriting credit), shot. and played an original role in a full length film. It's in editing now and should be ready soon. Awesome news Jon
Good morning

Expand commentAction lines may differ considerably due to available budget. EG Big car chases with weapons for big studio to a character does a simple walk in the park in lower fund Indie. However, money and big props do not necessarily buy audiences feelings. A simple walk can be made more interesting by how character walks, cumbersome gait or sprightly dance up path?Do they stop to pick up an injured bird? Stop to give a tramp a dollar? OR Push someone out of their way on path while jogging? Spit on ground after passing someone they don’t like the look of? Devil is in detail. Character does not need a speeding big car with an AK47 to look bad or save someone from a towering inferno or to look good. Any action line, big or small should move story forward or reveal something in plot. Action for the sake of it happens in some films and it’s then time when most folk to go to the fridge etc.

Expand commentSubtle layering of props BEFORE an action line can indicate the frame of mind of character and help audience understand their reason for behavior, providing an intellectual forethought. EG In this scene baby step actions before raising a sword to protagonist, stroking a bottle of whisky and fake film award with a dust of cocaine on fingertip. (The guy's an alcoholic and druggie thinking about his life.) Props never need cost big bucks, I got books and empty bottle from a stockroom, the cocaine is a bag of sugar off a hotel table. (Sorry rambling about film and we are talking script) So, going back to question about video action lines, unless it's a "Random" event eg a thunder storm happens and character runs off park bench, instead the character may find a letter from their husband to another woman and then run off. In some cases an object or another person is a good preemptive strike for an action line, can build up tension in reader so they are excited to find out what character is going to do.

I tried to write with screenplay spacing the other night but thread box kept shoving it all into one sentence so I photographed what I was trying to write. As I mentioned in earlier posts, action line can reveal character and not necessarily be a plot mover or spectacular visual show in blockbuster.
Made it to the semifinals of the Screenwriting contest. Fingers crossed for the finals.
Congratulations man!
Congratulations!!! :D
cool! Best of luck!

Entered it in the Stage 32 contest and was a semi-finalist. Not bad for a 1st try, I guess. Fixing things based on the notes I was given, then I'm going to try shopping it around. Anyone interested can give me a buzz. Starting another based on my 2nd book in the series. Also working on a new horror novel. Of course, though, I'd love to have some acting work (my true love), but nothing's come along. Anybody need a talented, plus size, older, bearded, long-haired man for a paying acting gig? Nite: my online resume does need to updated. Otherwise, hope things are going well for the rest of the Stage 32 family.
Keep at it. Good luck.

Expand postHello everyone,
Returned to the acting fold after a 30 year hiatus. Done a bunch of infomercials, extra work, and testimonials ( you know, all the starting up stuff). Landed a part in an off-Bdwy play. Then hooked up with a small production company and had featured roles in several shorts. Wound up collaborating on one script, then writing, filming and playing principle roles in two more. That lead to writing and filming a full length film and playing one of the leads. Currently turning one of 3 novels I've written into a screenplay, and also collaborating on another film script I'll be playing a part in. Always looking for acting work, if you're looking for a stocky guy in his 60's.
Good on you for getting back in the game, Jon. Inspiring. Congratulations on all the success, my friend. Would be great if you'd share some stories of what it was like breaking in again over in the Acting Lounge. Think it would serve to inspire many!
