Nitara was born in Washington, D.C., grew up around the world with her American diplomat parents in places such as Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Egypt, and now lives in California where she writes dramedy/drama movie and TV scripts.
She wrote, produced, and directed her own feature, “Running on Empty Dreams,” which was based on her life story about a married woman who falls in love with a single mom. It won 3 Telly Awards, was on Netflix, online with Barnes and Noble, and is now on Amazon and Tubi.
Nitara’s TV pilot “Chosen?” made it to the second round in the 2021 Sundance Episodic program, the second round in the Stage 32/HBO Black Boy Writes Black Girl Writes mentorship initiative (2022), was a quarterfinalist in the ScreenCraft Fellowship competition (2022), and been listed in the top 25% for concepts in the WeScreenplay competition (2022).
Nitara’s feature script, “Sleeping on Couches,” received the coveted “recommend” for the writer in April 2022 from an industry professional at an A-list production company.
She has written over 30 scripts/treatments on spec and/or has been hired by producers and various clients to write, revise, or adapt material for the screen.
She owns her own writing agency where she has ghostwritten and edited self-help books for clients. With the growth that they’ve had in 2020, she had to hire independent contractors to support her efforts. Three of their books have hit the bestseller’s list and clients that go to them will now be serviced by her contractors.
Nitara’s current focus is to get staffed in a writer’s room on a TV series drama or dramedy. She is currently developing two more projects for TV to enhance her portfolio (and will continue to develop more), as well as pitching two of her completed latest features and two TV series.’
