Hi there, I am Ellen Treanor and I have been working promoting actors, writers, directors, producers, photographers and other creatives for 14 years and if I have learned anything, it is NEVER GIVE UP!! You may be an angstrom away from a project that will change the course of your life!

nicely put Ellen!
My motto. If at first you don't succeed...

I completely agree! NEVER GIVE UP!
The question is: "Where to start?" I've got the screenplay. I even have Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves) who has agreed to play the lead. I've shopped around without a returned phone call. Any suggestions. Cheers David Jones
I am new here and am probably going to say something that won't be too popular but in my twenty years of working in this business, and seeing so many folks going and going and going after something, and experiencing only frustration, and never even considering (or being told by anyone) that they may just not be suited to this particular endeavor, I will say, and this is in no way directed at you David, that sometimes, just sometimes, it is appropriate, healthy and yes, even positive, to give up and bring our energy to something that is just as big a dream but more true for us.
Diana, Do you live in Canada? Fact is - feature films aren't being made here. Just T.V. I've been in the business for over 35years and frankly I found your comment patronizing and ignorant.
don't wanna be a prick but there are a lot of features being shot in Canada, specially since it's cheaper. I mean only in Toronto last year you got 87 big features. (not counting all the indie stuff) http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=2e591ba53b450410...
Pedro, Features being shot in Canada and Canadian home grown features being financed in Canada are 2 different things.
that sir is very true!
A lot of people live in denial. Not only in the film industry but in life. I mean, maxing credit cards, spending money you don't have, stalkers, crooks, reality "stars", I mean the list is long and does not only apply to this industry.
everyone is the boss of his own life, if someone wants to keep trying, let them try. As long as they don't bring a shotgun into my living room I say let them try.
Indeed. Never give up on a dream.
Nice to meet you!
@Glynis Wozniak and others here, I applaud perseverance, and indeed, I would say that a writer needs three things to succeed in this business: talent and its sidekick craft; perseverance; and luck. To me, it is in no way being negative to encourage people to be open about their own lives and the paths they take, and to be willing, at some point, to say okay, I tried this, I tried hard, and now the universe is telling me, It's time to look anew and look again. Please know that there are more people now making money off writers than there are writers who make money--and while the vast majority of those who work with writers mean only the very best, there is also an incentive to allow and encourage folks to keep at something, for years, and at great expense, which they are going to experience as disappointment, in the long run, and this isn't right. @David Jones, you threw two insulting words at me. We are all here to voice our opinions, and when we go low and insult others, we sully the waters that this site is inviting writers to wade into. Thank you for being more courteous in the future.
Thanks for the words of encouragement, they are spot on. Although, you should know the difference between being on the verge of making a breakthrough and being a fool, persevering when you will not make it because you don't have the skillz to do so, like a parent continuing to encourage their wannabe-popstar child to keep trying to be one, even though they can't sing for shit. The good thing however, is that the latter applies to few, as with a continued dedication to keep learning and improving, being industry-smart, having a whole ton of tenacity, and not forgetting a dash or two of luck of course, almost anyone can make it. So indeed, never give up! Unless you can't sing... I'm gonna go work on my voice!
Thanks! I've been a comedian for over twenty years and still have not hit "The Big Time". I've had some big moments and you're right Ellen, you never know which phone call or email could be the big break. This year alone I've been promised a movie role, I'm actually on the IMDB for the film, a walk on part in a sit-com and my own show called "Keep Your Day Job" that I have to develop on a new Network. Will anything come of any of these? Who knows, I just keep performing, writing and doing my Radio Show.

@ Glynis, thanks for commenting - I was simply providing a reference, and she can sing, but she's certainly no Aretha Franklin or even Beyonce, and is a star because of her looks, the team behind her and the fact that there exists a huge market for fluffy, shallow pop masquerading as something deeper, which it ain't. And by luck I don't mean anything in the mystical sense - believe me, I don't believe in any of that stuff. To clarify, what I did mean is that, while we must strive to take control of our own destinies, there is much that happens to all of us that we simply cannot control e.g. an actor persevering for years, not making much headway, but then... an actor who won a role ahead of him falls ill or for some other reason can't take the role, resulting in the big break for the dogged, yet 'unlucky' actor. This does happen, and strive as we might we are always at the mercy of being in the right place at the right time.
Thank you Ellen.

Everybody and their Smothers Brother is teaching people how to succeed. Not me, boy. I'm teaching people how to fail. With everybody trying so hard to succeed, failure has become a lost art. Why, if it weren’t for Congress’ fine example, we might have not even have a role model for abject failure. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I can teach you how to be a successful failure. If you follow my 10 Rules of Spectacular Failure, I can practically guarantee you’ll end up unsuccessful, disappointed and lonely. And if you never bathe, you’ll smell bad, too. So if failure seems like a good option for you, I'd like to invite you to read Goldenberg's 10 Rules of Spectacular Failure : http://10minutesofbrilliance.com/2012/02/goldenbergs-10-rules-of-spectac... Thanks Ellen! This is really valuable what you share with us! Have a lovely day xxx

Well said Ellen!
I teach actors that one vital RULE which I learned from Ruth Gordon "NEVER GIVE UP!"

it's really the most vital lesson...coz there are a lot of things that tempt actors to "quit" in fact I wrote a whole book about the subject!http://www.amazon.com/Awakening-Actor-Within-Twelve-Week-Workbook/dp/1462891993/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1377721326&sr=1-1&keywords=awakening+the+actor+within
That's so great!

Hi Ellen, Are you looking to represent screenwriters? Tom
I really needed to hear that right now Ellen. it just seems kick after kick after kick and i keep dusting myself off but so out of puff but thank you - I needed that :)
Ellen I also never give up but the loss of my child a bit slowed me
Would you have wanted the child to give up on his or her dreams because you died? Do you think your child would want you to give up on your dreams? Don't you think your child will always be with you in spirit?
Nope a mother will not want it in fact I would have wished I would have died . To tell you the truth In Indian society they Parents are more concerned than children
"True mothers will give up their children in order to save them." from "Donna Rose - Queen of Hearts"
