Screenwriting : OWA Selection by Francisco Castro

Francisco Castro

OWA Selection

My Navajo female-led horror, THE SPLINTER, set in San Juan County, NM has been selected for another OWA!!! This is the 3rd OWA selection for this script!!!

THANK YOU, Stage32!!!

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on THE SPLINTER getting selected again, Francisco Castro!

Richard Buzzell

Congrats Francisco. You've had a lot of selections. Maybe twenty in total? How are they doing thus far?

Francisco Castro

So far, Richard Buzzell, I'm the Susan Lucci of Stage32 OWAs.... it's an honor just to be nominated....

Jim Boston

Way to ROCK, Francisco! Here's to more and more success with "The Splinter!"

John C. Bounds

Congrats!

Sandra Correia

Wow Francisco Castro you are OWA Champion :)) you rock! congratulationsssss

Marcos David Luraschi

Congrats!

Hannah Woolmer

Huge congratulations on another OWA selection for THE SPLINTER!

Richard Buzzell

Francisco - Susan Lucci did eventually win on her 19th nomination. Do you have 19 OWA "nominations" yet?

Francisco Castro

Yes, Richard Buzzell, well over 19 OWA noms... and like Susan Lucci, until I "eventually win", I'll keep writing, stay pretty, and hold my head up high.

Bill Brock

AWESOME NEWS, FRANCISCO!!! Sounds like a game changer! Best of luck in changing the game!

Bill Brock

19 Noms??? “That’s Sick!!!” (as the Cool Kids Say.)

Richard Buzzell

That's you Bill. You're one of the cool kids.

Richard Buzzell

Francisco - How long has it taken you to amass "well over 19 OWA noms"?

Francisco Castro

May 2024 was my first OWA selection.

Joining Stage32's The Writer's Room has some really good benefits.

Sandra Correia

I am curious Francisco Castro after your OWA selection, what was the next step! What was your experience? Only to learn more about the OWA journey:)) Thank you

Francisco Castro

The next step, Sandra Correia, is I wait to see if the producers respond to the script. It takes time to hear back. In the mean time, I just keep writing.

Sandra Correia

Ok I understand now :)) Yes, keep writing is the key:)) thanks Francisco Castro for sharing

Richard Buzzell

Francisco - Just for fun I'm betting on you to be the first OWA participant to get a paid option. And I 'm betting it'll come soon - before Labor Day. Are you ready to wear that crown?

Francisco Castro

I was ready a long time ago, Richard Buzzell. Your lips to God's ears. Thank you!!!

Jill Gambaro

Congrats Francisco! must be a great script!

Richard Buzzell

Dan - Not that I'm aware of but I'm betting it'll happen either this Spring or Summer.

Richard Buzzell

Francisco - Seven months ago I predicted that one of your OWA selections would yield a paid option by Labor Day. Do I need to move this timeline back some, maybe to Christmas?

Kenisha Davis

Has there been any movement on your project since the OWA selection? Many have said nothing happens after that. I know getting financed for a feature film is hard, and the odds are like lottery winnings if you are not a studio decision maker. But nonetheless, this site is claiming they are not the lottery or a statistical anomaly and are indeed a part of the process for those who have the right chops.

Francisco Castro

Thanks for the prediction, Richard Buzzell, but presently, there's been no movement.

Francisco Castro

No movement as of this writing, @KenishaDavis.

Bill Brock

Francisco Castro I’m shocked by this reality, Francisco. You have been CRUSHING it this year with your STELLAR titles. Can’t believe things haven’t moved forward for you. For what it’s worth, I’m sending Good Vibes. Here’s hoping things happen for you in ‘26.

Francisco Castro

Thanks for the shoutout and Good Vibes, Bill Brock!!! Much appreciated!!! Sending you Good Vibes for 2026 as well!!!
