Joanna here. I live and work in Burbank and Berkeley. Been in Burbank off and on now for 2 something years. Heading back to Berkeley soon for a bit. LA is a tough town. Lots of networking, shmoozing, etc etc. If you are introverted like I am, not easy to make it in a city that values externals more than internals. But having said that I was able to co produce a documentary called Within Reach, write and produce a short film with a well known actor, Jim Beaver, called The Silence of Bees, co produce a play at The Hollywood Fringe (currently running) called 52 Pick Up with Aussie director and Acting4Camera owner Paul Barry. And do a few storytelling gigs. But you need a money source, connections and a willingness to work long and hard. I will be back eventually but want to finish a play, a screenplay and some short pieces for Huffington Post this year. Best place for that is in isolation for me

Hello all folks on this board. Thanks for taking the time to read about me. I look forward to meeting many of you here as well. My name is Joanna Folino and I lived and worked in the East Bay of San Francisco as a theatre and film professor for 20 years. I have now moved on in my life while still teaching online classes here in Burbank. I was a playwriting major in grad school in Ohio and over the last decade have been involved in writing and producing both narrative shorts and full length docs. My newest doc is called Within Reach about the search for sustainable communities in the US and my last short film starred actor Jim Beaver and it was called The Silence of Bees.
