Stephen, what’s “The Lunch Date”? The original Lunch Date was shot in B/W on 16mm in 1968/69 and won an OSCAR for best live action short – are you thinking a re-make?

I'm familiar with the film. There is also another well recognized film with same title from 1990, among others. So far, we are shooting with a fairly generic descriptive title, but that may change as we get closer to finishing the project.

Stephen, I don’t get what you’re looking for – you have scripts, gear, cast, crew, location…everything you need. But it sounds like this is your first time out on your own. If that’s the case, finding investors will be very difficult without some sample of your work. You may have to produce your first short out-of-pocket so that you have something tangible that you can use in your future fundraising efforts.

Stephen how connected is your network? Clearly you're on Stage32 so you're off to a great start! If this is your first solo project ask yourself how important is THIS project? If its a passion project (the one that MUST be made before you hit your grave,) I say put it to the side for now, and start with something that you're not as tied to. Why? Because you can build up your street cred. as a producer. Start with a project with the intent of getting a seasoned producer to umbrella you. Then you'll have a solid credit under your belt which will speak volumes for the next project in the pipeline. Again I ask, how strong is your network? If you live in NYC I can help you with that. I'll have to look into reenactments but I do have a ton of filmmaking networks here that I know would help out. So I think I'll see what I can find about 1930's reenactment. Thanks for the advise!

Hi Rafael How to get a crowd for your crowd funding project depends on how creative you are. Everyone starts by asking friends, family and associates to help, but that only gets you so far. Somewhere down the line, you have to start reaching out to strangers. Now, depending on your film you might be lucky enough to find groups that might be willing to introduce your project to their members, like Civil War reenactment groups, if your film has something to do with the Civil War. You have to start thinking very creatively to find enough people for your project. Finding groups is only half the problem, once you are getting in front of people you need to get them to sign up for your email newsletter. Yes, get them to sign up for your email newsletter! Being able to talk to people through your newsletter in a person-to-person fashion is much more effective than you might think when it comes to raising funds for your project. You can turn people through a newsletter who are just well-wishers into donators over a little bit of time. And never underestimate the value of a well-wishers. Well-wishers may not donate directly to your fundraising campaign, but they can introduce your project to their friends and family as well as their business acquaintances, which can lead to more followers and donations. There are so many ways to do this, I can't possibly go through them all in this post! Just think outside the box and get a little creative and do the work, you'll have a better chance of reaching your goal.

Yeah I'm currently looking into some historic associations with ties do the content of the film. As well as looking into well populated areas on the internet that share the same interests as whats in the film. Starting to build that crowd.

Yes...But I'm in the process of starting up a new page. I'm going to set up a campaign to find actors and producers on Facebook to join the page, As a little experiment!.

Hi Amanda, There are so many people today reaching out through the crowd funding channels, that things have changed. No longer can you build a campaign with the attitude that people will come in some magical way and find you. Today, there is a method that almost every successful campaign employs and it goes something like this! You start approximately 3 to 6 months ahead of the time you want to fund your film with a social campaign to gather up followers on the social networks. These followers are people who would like to see your kind of film produced, in other words in your case, it would be the LGBT community which just happens to be active on the social networks. (I took a quick look and there seems to be several, which is a good thing). You reach out to these groups and start talking to people to see if you can get some interest going. There's a process where you find advocates and influencers to help share your vision to the LGBT community and other like-minded communities. Like I said, there is a process and it has several steps which we're not ready to go into in this email. I know, you probably had no idea that there is a process today. Even with the process only about 75% of those campaigns will be successful. So many fail every day because they're not prepared to do the work necessary for success. You have to activate all the social network channels that you can, you start with a Twitter channel, a Facebook page, Instagram and Pinterest, etc. You have to post to those channel on a regular basis to keep your supporters engaged, if not, when it comes time to contribute they won't.
