"Don't shoot for perfection, shoot for 'I feel really good about it'. That's when you know you're ready". Solid, sage advice from RB about screenwriting.
Awesome advice, RB. Joining from London again after the Queen's Gambit and Chris Mack webinars, and loving getting to know the Stage 32 community! What tips do you have ahead of today's Super Early Bird Deadline of your TV Comedy contest? Ready to submit a new polish of my project We are the Jungle which has been gaining traction recently!
Really appreciated the questions about representation, ageism and adaptations. Thanks R.B. I always get great nuggets of advice from your answers and your positive energy is infectious.
WOW! What RB shared about book adaptation and focusing on that moment in the book that catapults the protagonist through the Arc was JUST the golden nugget I needed to hear. Currently working on rewrites of an adaptation and when I asked myself what that moment is, it came to me so clearly as well as how to tie it all together. THANK YOU SO MUCH RB!
RB exudes positive energy. He makes the impossible in this industry seem possible through his no holds barred attitude about engaging in the industry and having a place in "the room".
The Writers Room has been the best investment in honing my screenwriting skills and networking with other writers. Jason Mirch, Director of Script Services, gave me a 30-day free trial and after a month, I signed up as a subscribed member. There is so much that goes on in this Stage 32 private Writers Room.
I've learned to be happy in all things. I also accept rejection and turn it into a challenge to overcome, which is exciting. Just like my characters, we all have to overcome challenges. I just accept that and enjoy the journey.
QUESTION: What's the best Subject Line for an e-query letter when sending to prospective Lit managers? Should a writer stick to a brand? (Example: "LatinX writer with Cuban crime series" or "LGBTQ writer seeks representation" or BIPOC writer with diversity-led screenplay") What's the most effective opening that'll make a rep actually want to read the full e-query letter? Thanks so much and stay safe!
My first AMA--(but gazillionth Stage 32 webinar, course, and consultation.) I loved it. R.B. offered such great motivating lines: Be the CEO of your own life. Find happiness in everything you do. Stay even-keeled through ups and downs. Be collaborative so others will want to work with. Relax. How much R.B. loves helping people and enjoys the community. And the wonderful chance he gives writers to connect with people in the industry even if not in L.A. Stage 32 is amazing.. So great!
@Aray - Great question! In my experience, Introverted, shy, reserved, and standoff-ish are not all the same. I would agree - shy denotes a fear while introverted implies a preference for time spent. I am definitely an extrovert (I get energy from spending time with people) but I can be shy and I am definitely reserved - which means choosing not to talk until there is something of value to say (which is different than standoff-ish, where the assumption is no one has anything of worth to say).
