Hi to all the beautiful artists!

I'm Ukrainian, and I'm a screenwriter by night, and an IT person by day :) Screenwriting is my big passion I devote almost all my free time to. Now focusing on feature film scripts, but have quite an experience in writing for TV. I'm happy to join Stage32 community, and am looking forward to the new opportunities in the film industry.

Tim Bragg nice to meet you and thanks for the request! good to see friendly faces here

Always great to see someone choosing to follow their passion

Mariia Rudenko

thanks a lot Dalen Flynn ! this is what makes us alive

Feedback request, please!

I just finished my first attempt at a screenplay, based on my short story: The Club of Silence. It's a twisted-western-horror, rated R. Twenty-three pages. I'm hoping to find a few people willing to beta-read and provide feedback: story, formatting, etc...whatever you see that needs to be corrected,...

@Sallie Sounds an interesting Urban Horror/Western. I don’t mind looking it over if you message me an email.

N. "Key" Ali

Hi Sallie, would love to read and offer feedback

Preparing your script with One Note

I've recently started using Microsoft One Note to 'prepare' a movie script and it's been helpful. One Note, conceptually, is like an electronic ring binder with multiple dividers and sub dividers. So I have tags like Characters, Templates, Story Strands, 5 Turning Points, Outline, Schedule etc. and...

Thanks for the idea, John Fernando!

Justin Chomitzky

I go old school and use a notebook and binder.

E Aguirre, Jr.

I love this idea. Been trying to figure out how to get my old WL DAVIS, JR's "Screenwriting Companion: A Workbook for Screenwriters" into digital format.

Tim Bragg

I write my storyboard on Microsoft Word.

What genres do you feel most comfortable writing?

Answer: I write fantasy, mystery, romance, and action-adventure. I also wrote a screenplay where a lot of my characters are civil right activists.

David Kleve

I've got to say, I've got a lot of respect for people who can write comedy.

Justin Chomitzky

I enjoy writing fantasy, thriller and horror

Alister Brooks

Drama, Sci-Fi, and Thriller.

Kiril Maksimoski

Horror...it's so A,B,C still always keeps audience engaged...

Nick Waters

Depends on what I'm feeling, but generally horror/thriller.

Tablet ou laptop

Hey guys

A tablet or a laptop would be a more suitable tool for a screenwriter?

It’s surely a personal choice, but I would love to get some opinions on that one, please.

Edward Terry

I find it much easier to work on a laptop, plus apps like Final Draft are easier to use split screen :) But ... I do use a tablet occasionally when I am travelling to make changes or add bits to a script. However, it is never anything major. But you gotta do what works for you!

Emily J

Generally I prefer a laptop (after writing the vast majority by hand) BUT I've seen those new sort-of typewriters - where it's a keyboard with a small screen and doesn't connect to a web browser (it's...

Welcome to the community, Justin Chomitzky. I think it's cool that you wrote a play in elementary school. What genre was it?

Nick Waters

Nice to meet you and welcome to Stage 32!

GiGi Raines

Hi Justin! You've taken all the right steps, and sounds like you have a lot of irons in the fire to build your momentum. Congratulations on all of your successes so far!

Justin Chomitzky

Thank you all for the nice welcome everyone! It’s so nice to meet you all too!

Justin Chomitzky

Thanks Maurice Vaughan it was an actually a dramatic thriller if I remember right. I was in fourth grade when I came up with it.

End of Act I

Finally got to the end of the first act first draft of this horror feature I'm working on. It's really rough, and will require a lot of rewriting, but that's what a first draft is for, I reckon. Gonna take a few days and let it marinate a bit before diving back in and starting Act II.

So, what are y'all working on?

Kiril Maksimoski

Monday meeting with director/producer on rewrites...before that, weekend at the summerhouse, mowing, gardening stuff...

J. Franklin Evans I think it comes with confidence. Early on in my writing I would never have done that, but I learned to do the groundwork before I start and I know where the story is going, then for...

Thomas Moore that seems like an unnecessary addition to the process. If you have FD, go straight into it and then you don’t need the reformat stage.

And would you please add a profile pic to your Bio....

Just about to add a picture. It really helps me to go over my script fully and check for mistakes. It might not be necessary but I prefer that to just going over the first draft by reading it alone.

Wendy Altshuler

J. Franklin Evans I do the same: broad strokes first to get the structure down, because the structure will shift, and go in later to refine details. Currently, I’m working on a supernatural thriller....

Today, I decided to follow my instincts and start writing my script. Even though I have more research to do around the themes of my story and the world of screenwriting itself, I was courageous enough (or stupid enough, time will tell) to start writing the script of my pilot on Celtx.

It might be ru...

Never ignore inspiration. There's no reason that you can't write out beats or scenes while continuing to research and outline, for research often inspires scenes. That's how I write.

There are no "traditional norms", only what works for you. I've outlined some scripts to death and others I've had marinating in my mind for years and just decided one day to dive in.

I often write out a barf draft like that with only a basic logline written out just to see where the story goes and who my my characters might be. After that I do more detailed outlining, research.
