Are weightier movies and period pieces suffering a general lack of interest? Some of you writers have recently said there are no bad movies. Why did these two and movies like Free State of Jones, Birth of a Nation, The Finest Hours (which I loved) and The Rules Don't Apply fail to catch fire at the box office? Doesn't anyone want to see a movie about two Jesuits goint in search of their mentor in 17th Century Japan? Or would you rather go see Rogue One again? https://www.yahoo.com/movies/hidden-figures-prevails-as-monster-trucks-b...
Bill C: Jim Jarmusch is one of the original indie filmmakers. I haven't seen any of his new work and will make a point of doing so. I loved some of the oldies like Down By Law and Stranger than Paradise.
I loved Paterson, I think the screenplay is brilliant, for it holds the curiosity and the attention, but finally very little happens, and itì's sweet: Good movie!

The trailer for this film looks really interesting and I'm going to rent this one. I like well-done stories about people leading seemingly mundane lives. For anybody interested, here's the link to the trailer.

I just saw this today and while I'm sure not everyone loves musicals, it was so great to see a movie that wasn't a reboot of something or a sequel. Really enjoyed it, loved the story and I think Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were amazing.
Well, with all these LIVE musicals they've been doing (GREASE, WIZ, HAIRSPRAY) it's perfectly timed AND it's NEW and FRESH! I found the "auditions" she went on to be so real and honest.
It did well at the Golden Globes tonight! Love it!

I hadn't read any reviews but I thought it would be clichéd, self-congratulatory and, for some reason, full of back-slapping "Hey, aren't we great" celebrity cameos. But I took one for the team and trudged along with my wife and daughter. And here's the thing: I ended up loving it so much, they've had to ban me from talking about it. I swear I'll never pre-judge another Hollywood-based musical again!
Hi. I'm not new to writing but I am new to A) writing for myself and B) Screenwriting. I'm working on a couple of things, and I'm looking for a writing group or people to give feedback or bounce ideas around with. Thanks!
Welcome! We were all newbies one time!

I'm just curious as to how screenwriters are processing recent events in the US and Europe, with the Brexit vote and Trump's presidency, and if it's having any effect on their current projects. I'm working on a romantic comedy at the moment but, all of a sudden, it just feels trivial (or even more trivial) when I look around me and see what's been going on lately. Does anyone else feel that way and has anyone been moved yet to shelve or change a screenplay they're working on because of recent developments?
Yes, Ruth, I share the same concerns. However I do feel more emboldened to say more, do more, be more, address issues, stand up, push back. In that way it has affected what I wish to do with my work. I wish to create, support, praise, and further explore female-driven stories.

After the Trump win, I had to change my approach to make the story stay relevant. So, I guess Trump's win didn't cause me problems as much as my naive thinking that Hillary was a given.

I'm pretty sure, though, that we've all got what you might call guilty oversights, the films you know you really should have seen but never have. Mine are Star Wars in all its guises, Back To The Future pts I, II and III, Raiders of the Lost Ark etc and ET. Yeah, yeah, I know, but I also know someone who's never seen (and has no intention of seeing) The Godfather, which is worse, right? Anyone else out there willing to confess their unwatched movie sins?
Seen it more times than I'd care to mention, David. And agreed, it's a superior film to The Godfather. It's Star Wars etc that are missing on my resumé.
Hi James - I must be one of the very few sci-fi fans that doesn't want to watch all the star wars movies. Strange but true.
Bela Tarr is an anti-cinephile and his films came out pretty well.
This was my last movie of the day and it couldn't have ended on a higher note. Director Claude Lelouch was welcomed with open arms when he stepped on the stage. Have to say, I liked the look of the trailer. Looking forward to seeing it.
Hi, James. Thanks for accepting my request. I took a look at your logline and immediately wanted to read the screenplay. I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it. Are you working on anything currently?
Sorry I've been a little slow to respond and I haven't finished reading She's the Wan. My daughter's birthday party is this weekend and I still have a lot to do. But I should have it finished by Sunday night.

Just drop me a line whenever you can, and only if you have time to finish it off. My email's gingerfox@mundo-r.com if that's easier. I'm going to read the rest of Infatuation and can let you know what I think if you want. Bit tied up this weekend with the day job though. Enjoy your daughter's party and have a good weekend.
Not at all. I've been itching to finish the script, but making a pinata, planning games, baking a cake, and preparing food for fifty people is time consuming. I'll email you when I've finished it.
That's a very nice black labrador you've got there!

Big up to you, Anthony.
Be careful with that Guy Ritchie/Ska Films/Craigslist gig (September 2), people. It looks a bit iffy to me and a few other people I've been chatting to about it.
Yep, agree James that's why I commented on it... Same applies to all the leads really, do your due diligence and make sure you are comfortable before proceeding.

Expand commentThe moment I switch off the light and go to bed, SUDDENLY, ideas, scenes and dialogue invade my mind - naturally, one has to bloody get up and write the stuff, because I NEVER remember it in the morning - a damn nuisance, but some inspired work almost every time - can it get any worse? Yes, when the characters come to life and begin conversing with you - interesting experience, but it doesn't enhance one's sleep.
