Alok, it is a pleasure to meet you. What a great introduction! You have a very successful background. 22+ years in the industry is really impressive. I read your testimonials on your website and they are really great. With all the work that you've been on have you always been based in India or have you lived elsewhere? We have had a Stage 32 composer, Brandi Thomas, from Florida, USA that just finished scoring the film TAXII in India this year. I love that creativity is flowing between countries all over the world.

Hi Julie, Great meeting up with you too. Although I live in India I do work abroad, have spent about a year in London shooting two features there. Talking about synergies our London experience was really interesting, we had a story which was about London's past with an all Brit cast and a Hollywood lead, part Indian-part Brit crew, production designer from New Zealand, Sound post in Germany, edit and VFX in Mumbai, and produced by an Indian company. Synergy was over-flowing on this one. :D

Can anyone help with a documentary film budget for me? I usually work as a broadcast editor (20 years) in London, LA and NYC but currently venturing into the world of documentary filmmaking. I have completed a press kit and sizzle and now looking to work closely with someone not only to help with the budget side but potentially raising funds for the film? Many thanks!

be advised... seeking investors, especially for Million plus films in the USA requires meeting some SEC rules... be vary careful just tossing out " i'm looking for an investor" here or anywhere else on the internet. Most films are financed using SEC Rule 506 that lets ventures, like films, offer investments without having to meet other rules set for corporations that hold Initial Public Offerings and sell stock. Because films are projects that don't publicly issue financial data and that investors themselves can't manage, the SEC generally lets only certified "accredited" investors put their own money into film productions. Rule 506 limits the number of non-accredited investors to 35, but it still requires these investors to demonstrate some level of sophistication in finance; film directors and producers usually seek accredited investors. You should do some homework before engaging in this effort.

Thank you Georgia for your detailed explanation. I was not looking particularly at a US based investor but this information will be useful should any interest arise from that side of the world. As a side note though how does crowd funding work since the number of people involved are bound to be more than 35?

crowd funding is a rather grey area in the US right now. The SEC and Financial sectors are sorting it all out. depending on the amounts and exactly HOW the funding plays out it could be fine or it could be an issue. Here's a link to the proposed rules. https://www.sec.gov/rules/proposed/2013/33-9470.pdf For now, if you are seeking small amounts and/or small numbers of people its fine. Its about staying under the RADAR for the time being. We just finished a successful Crowd funding effort for our of our films. But we are being careful about the number of people and more importantly, how much they donate. We set a small percentage of our project budget aside for Crowd sourcing, the rest was raised from individuals involved in the film.
