Received my eval from the Black List...

Hello all, I finished the last rewrite of my first completed screenplay a few weeks ago. After copyrighting and registering it with the Writer's Guild, I listed it on the Black List and paid for their evaluation. It took a little over 2 weeks. If you're a newbie, I'd recommend buying the evaluation...

Oops, I've not used this site for a long while, so didn't realise I was resurrecting something! Sorry.

Hmm.interesting ..I have something there and you're right no reaction... but then the same with InkTip. Perhaps I need to work on being a better writer?

Sheila D. Boyd

I have used The Black List in the past. Their business model - unless things have changed since I was there - is based on the writers paying monthly to host their scripts and then paying for as many r...

Cliffhanger Endings?

Would welcome thoughts on cliffhanger endings. Reason for this is that I've just received some feedback from a written pitch I did where the executive really liked it but was disappointed with the ending which basically is a cliffhanger with the protagonist about to be killed... or not. Having writt...

In my humble opinion, the cliffhanger ending works better in TV episodes/series. However, personally, I do enjoy an ambiguous ending to a film. Remember "Total Recall" the original? At the end they ar...

Who are your top (10) favorite screenwriters of all time?

I am a screenwriter just like to know what you other "Happy Writers" think.

Ben Trebilcook

Hi Steven, nice straight-forward post. For me, it was simply the films I loved and grew up watching and then discovering who wrote the films, THAT was when I was inspired to write. I've written simila...

I wrote a Pilot, now what?

So here I am, a complete novice. No experience, no representation, no resume', just the "hey I'd like to do that" feeling since I was 19. Anyway, a couple of years ago I finally had what I think is an original-ish idea, and after a few cycles of writing and putting it on the shelf, I finally finishe...

Like anything, it depends on your intent. I'm not trying to be a smartass. I really believe that different goals are associated with different paths. In any case, break a leg!

Baljinder Singh Gill

I'd write a series Bible to accompany it then you're good to go.

C. Andrew Hayworth

This thread certainly got interesting. I think I'd like to adapt it into a screenplay. Dan Max will be tough to cast.

Quick question about the 2nd annual screenplay contest.

Posted this question on my wall as well. What page length is too short to bother? 150 is the maximum as stated in the rules. My current play is 76 with an easy 85-90 if I add deleted/optional scene(s), very controversial so not sure if I should add . Any info greatly appreciated.

Baljinder Singh Gill

Dont make it 100 pages plus just for the sake of it. A lot of horror flicks are about 80-90 pages and also contained pieces. For example Phone Booth. That said try to get it to at least 85 pages by go...

Thank you for the input, please accept my invites . Thinking 85-90ish for sure, would love to get 110 but just not in the story. Have been going from beginning to end, many edits. Trying to add any de...

Hi Angie Thank you for connecting. In relation to your post in collaborating on a producing capacity, I have a number of scripts in my locker that might fit the bill. If you could narrow down the parameters slightly, any particular genres and what budget ranges? Also do you have the capacity to produce in the UK? Many thanks! Bal.

Mini-Bible (drama pilot)

Can someone recommend a few books and/or websites dealing with writing mini-bibles for pilot scripts?

Michelle L. De La Garza

Thanks for the link Oliver. :)

Baljinder Singh Gill

There's a webinar on here which was brilliant and helped me put my series bible together. You'll have to pay for it but it's worth the money.

Like I said I think it's brilliant. So many avenues to progress your career. However the majority of those avenues cost money, it is a business after all. But I got no problem with that. I firmly believe to progress you need to invest. Just like any other career.

Well, at least you are starting from somewhere.

Hi Veronica Thank you for the connection! And so close to home. Unlike yourself I'm just a humble screenwriter. Are you seeking any projects?

Writing Horror to Scare up the Big Bucks - Webinar

Just finished listening to this webinar and... brilliant! Ever since watching a pirate version of The Exorcist on VHS when I was 14 I've avoided horror. Hey, gang! I've recently taken up exercise and it's really helped my mind as far as screenwriting goes. I've been sharper and thinking more clearly. Length of script

I had cut out what I thought was unnecessary fat from my script and now that I am satisfied with it it is only 75 pages long. Is that too short?

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

John: That's a bit lean for a feature. I'd say a minimum of 80 minutes. However, you might like to partake of this link where this topic is discussed. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/techniques-independen...

Depends on the genre. Films like Phone Booth which are contained thrillers are around 80 pages and under.
