Bringing the two leads together

I was wondering how to build the romance between the two leads without it seeming forced, especially in an action film. Are there some specific steps in each act? Must it be incorporated in the character arc? Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Rick Hautala

WIthout knowing the particulars, I would work the attraction, but have something(s) that is (are) keeping them apart. For instance, in the script I just finished (set in the 1890s), there's a social c...

Good point Rick. My thought is that the romantic film genre has a structure - boy meets girl(1-10), boy has problem with girl falls in love(11-30), boy loses girl-his own fault(31-45), boy gets girl b...

Substitute "group of people" for "boy" and "horrors" for "girl," and that's pretty much a horror script ... Maybe ... I may be a little glib here, but that's pretty much it ... :) ... I'm working on s...

I really enjoyed your piece about the Tillicum Bridge - I've been watching the construction, and it was fun to see things up close :-) Thanks for the connection!

Hi Todd - oh my, can you tell I don't check my page here very often? I completed a role in "Zilla and Zoe" which is now in post, and I'm working on a screenplay that's a psychological thriller. Hope this finds you doing well!

What do ACTORS most hate to hear on the set?

Three years ago, someone posted the question to filmmakers - "what do you most hate to hear from actors on a set?" It was a very popular thread, full of venting and dumping on actors about everything from not knowing their lines and asking when lunch was (actors, really, just don't ask that question...

Structure

I'm kind of obsessive about story structure. Probably the engineering background. Anywho, while devouring everything I could find (and there's lots out there - and they all have a similar spine) I came across a 60-second jeep commercial that follows the three act structure perfectly. So naturally I...

When Life Handed Me Lemons..

About ten years ago, I lost everything, including my beloved wife. So, I packed what little I had left in an old, beat-up, Ford Escort and headed for LA.. When I rolled into this town, I had just five dollars left in my pocket and I started over from there.. Now almost a decade later, I own a film c...

Thanks Tommi. It's still a vague answer. My character traits can only go so far without opportunities discovered and given. But everyone's path can be different.

Hi, Brynn. Thanks for the connection! I lived in Texas for three years in the 80s, so I understand your desire to "get out." :) Glad we both made it out...

Brynn Baron

Me too! :-) I should try to be more charitable about an entire state. And I've got friends and family there whom I love dearly - but it's Texas, after all.

Hi James - you win the prize for best profile picture, as far as I'm concerned. :-)
